American Idol star Adam Lambert has admitted that he wasn’t expecting to create such a furore when he shaved part of his head this week.

The ‘If I Had You’ singer revealed his new look on Twitter and was taken aback by the legions of shocked fans, who thought that he had no hair left. He followed up his picture with a tweet saying:

Calm down… Just shaved one side…

The singer told MTV News that he was shocked by the media coverage the cut caused too, he said:

“I was just talking about it with my make-up artist, who helped me shave a tiny piece of my hairstyle – it’s just 3 inches up the side of head.”

“And it’s not bald, just very short. I didn’t think that was newsworthy! It caught me off guard and made me laugh that E! Online and MTV and People wanted to report on it.”

“I’m flattered that they find it that important,” he added.
