Andrew Garcia told the cameras on tonight’s American Idol that he is breaking the cycle of violence in his family. Both of Andrew’s parents were involved in gangs and led “a crazy life,” and he claims that he is trying to give his son a better life.

“I’m a dad, and it’s the greatest thing in the world,” he said.

Andrew did Maroon 5 proud with his version of “Sunday Morning.” Simon Cowell was downright effusive in his praise for him, “You’re the only person who’s walked through today who I genuinely believe is a good singer,” he said.

Kara DioGuardi added, “You really knew what to emphasize and what not to emphasize.” Randy Jackson said he had “mad vocals,” and guest judge Katy Perry said that he gave her chills.
