A funky guitar playing, harmonica blowing singer isn’t what you expect to see when you tune into American Idol, but we hope that Crystal Bowersox goes far. She has given refreshingly different performances during her time on the show so far and we hope that she attacks the live episodes with the same vigour.

Simon Cowell played with her a bit before he told her she was going through to the final 24. He asked if she was OK, saying that she probably knew that this show wasn’t the right platform for her and then put her out of her misery when he told her that she was in.
