American Idol 2010: Simon Cowell calls Mary Powers clichéd

We completely understood what Simon Cowell was saying when he called 28 year old Burbank girl Mary Powers clichéd on tonight’s American Idol.

Before she started singing he said:

“I think everything about you is very cliched. You know, trying to dress like a rock star.”

But when Mary began to sing Pat Benatar’s ‘Love Is a Battlefield,’ he had to eat his words.

After the performance Simon conceeded:

“I think you’ve got a very good voice … That’s a very difficult song to sing without a track.”

Guest judge Avril Lavigne agreed. “You do have a character to your voice,” she said, “And a cool tone. It’s raspy and it is punk rock, so I think it’s cool.”

“Little girl, huge voice – I love that,” mused Randy Jackson.
