American Idol 2010: Simon Cowell says ‘stupid’ Todrick Hall ‘murdered’ his song (VIDEO)

Todrick Hall opened last night’s American Idol live show and I think we all knew he was never going to be a shrinking violet!

Todd sang Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ and whether you liked it or not, you have to admit he definitely put his mark on the track. We were a little disappointed by Todd’s vocals, we know he can do much better but at least he tried to be interesting. Many of the other boys who followed could have taken a few tips from him.

Simon Cowell didn’t like Todd’s version of the song and even went as far as to tell him that he murdered it. He said:

“I thought it was a crazy arrangement of the song. What you did was completely murder the original song. You can boo all you want, but nobody would buy it. I think what you did was verging on stupid.”

Ellen said he was a ‘great performer’ and liked that he tried something different.

Kara DioGuardi: ‘It is undeniable that you are a performer and you took a risk. The way you learn in life is to take a risk so I applaud that.’

Rancy Jackson: ‘You are mad talented but what was crazy was like it didn’t even sound like the same song. You nefver want to take a song and completely obliterate it. You don’t have to completely change the song to give us who you are.’
