American Idol 2010: Simon Cowell thought Andrew Garcia’s ‘Genie In A Bottle’ was a little desperate (VIDEO)

We can see what Andrew Garcia was doing when he chose to sing a Christina Aguilera track on last night’s American Idol. Since he made the live shows he hasn’t been able to live up to the revamped version of Paula Abduls ‘Straight Up’ that he performed in the audition stages and he obviously thought last night’s gimmicky performance would recapture some of that success.

However his performance of Genie In A Bottle didn’t match up for us and we thought it was a little strained and uncomfortable. You could tell that he only learned the song this week, as he didn’t seem to be familiar with it at all.

Judges Comments:

Randy Jackson: Dude I like the cardigan. Listen very interesting song choice but it didn’t quite work for me. It was a little pitchy and you made it feel like the whole song was just three notes. There was no range in it.

Ellen DeGeneres: I thought it was a great sing choice and that’s what you needed to do. The genie came out of the bottle a little too late. The end was great.

Kara DioGuardi: You’re in a hard position because you peaked so early and you’ve been chasing it ever since. I can appreciate what you did tonight but you were fighting the rhythm of the guitar, we couldn’t hear you until then end.

Simon Cowell: For me it seems that you’ve been trying to work out what you should be doing, it was a little bit desperate. You over thought it but you are still going backwards at the moment.
