American Idol 2013: Randy Jackson almost left show
American Idol judge Randy Jackson considered leaving the show and almost didn’t return for the current season.
The musician admits he never expected the popular TV talent contest to run for so long but eventually thought it was best to come back this year with the new line up of judges.
Randy, who now sits alongside Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey on the panel, told Access Hollywood Live: “It did cross my mind [to leave Idol], ’cause, you know, when we started this, we never knew it would go this long.
“So, thank God, I was so blessed to have the show and have it go this long, but, you know, sometimes you want to look at some other stuff.”
The star added that he expects the show to run for many years to come as it is still hugely popular with television audiences.
He said: “This show could go as long as they really want it to go – I mean, you look at even the numbers now. It’s the greatest [show] of its kind.
“Most things on TV that are reality shows, there’s no proof of concept – somebody wins and they just go away or whatever, they get a trophy or a prize and it’s on to the next one.
“This show, the afterlife is amazing when you look at the careers of Jennifer Hudson, you look at the career of Kelly Clarkson.”
Randy is the only original member of the show’s judging panel left on the programme.
American Idol airs on 5* in the UK.
