American Idol: Adam Lambert Destroys Ring Of Fire

So what did you think of Adam Lamberts American Idol performance this week?

The theme was Country songs and Adam wanted to stand out so put an Egyptian spin on the old Johnny Cash favourite ‘Ring Of Fire’. The judges were bemused and baffled, Kara in particular was at a loss for words.

No doubt he destroyed a classic track but I actually really enjoyed it. It was entertaining, comical and way out there. I like that Adam will dare to be different and is not afraid to take a risk. Adam is a bit of a marmite type performer, but love him or hate him, you will definitely remember him!

I agree. The performance was the highlight of the entire season, dare I say the entire 8 seasons. The complete control and range of Lambert’s voice was downright amazing. Destroyed Ring of Fire? Nope, enhanced it.

That same version was on a johnny cash tribute album 7 years ago americana and it stunk then and it sucks.

I thought it was pure genious. Good on him for having the guts to go out there and do something different. These sort oftalent shows need something like him.

adam lambert looks like elvis presley.I hope he use his stage talent and singing experience wisely by choosing the right songs that not only adapts to audiences in stage and theater but to millions audiences watching the american idol singing competition.

I agree, Elinor, he does look like Elvis but I also see a touch of Chris Isaak and Kurt Russell.

AI, XF, etc have always had a few contestants that make you wonder why they weren’t already signed but Adam is a total standout among them.

  9. Dorena says:

I loved it & Adam. My husband at first thought it was too weird but now he too thinks it’s amazing. Can’t deny the talent. BTW I am 49 & he is 56.

“Ring of Fire” by Adam Lambert was phenominal! I sat there captivated as did my partner. We’re 47 and 48 and are not put-off by Adam’s persona. We think he is hot and extremely talented. I hope he keeps surprising us. (Whoops, he already did during Motown week)

  11. Ekaterina says:

I think Adam is brilliantly amazing and talented. He has this energy around and about him that people get psyced over when they see him perform. But i do have to say his brother( i think it’s his brother) is deffinitley gorgeous. is ee good looks run in the family. Hope he wins american idol he is by far my favourite since Kelly Clarkson.

  12. Glenys says:

Adam leaves me spellbound. Absolutely awesome! Ring of fire, oh my gosh, brillant! I can’t see him ever doing a poor performance. I knew from the auditions he has star potental.

  13. jamie says:

Okay people, Adam sings notes that only dogs can hear!!!He is the reason that it seems as though there’s a fix in the competition; he is so annoying but all the judges rave over him. His talent is totally over exaggerated. Sorry, but it’s the truth. He can only sing in one register, which is so high it gives me a headache. That ‘ring of fire’ performance put me over the edge, awfull!! I think Johnny Cash was rolling over in his grave after that one. If he wins it will confirm that either the competition is a set up or that the people of America have lost all taste for real talent.

I am a Johnny Cash fan and now an Adam Lambert fan. I thought this version of the song was captivating and brillant. It’s not like the original and it’s wasn’t suppose to be. Sometimes taking an old song and changing it is a disaster but this was not the case. He made it his own, which is what the american idol judges always say they want and frankly when I watch it’s what I want. I want to see new CREATIVE singers and artists not the same old same old. I love his version. I close my eyes and listen and feel like I’m in a dream. You know the music is good when it makes you feel something and this song gave me goosebumps “in a good way” I could sit on my back porch with a drink after a long day and melt away with this song. Thanks adam. And yanno I think Mr.Cash would appreciate him as an artist. Cash was different, VERY different for his time and so is Adam.
