American Idol: Adam Lambert tops the Billboard Hot 200 with “Trespassing” – Wow!! (VIDEO)
Adam Lambert has once again proved his popularity and his spot as one of the most successful ever American Idol stars.
The 30 year old singer has been a fan favourite, ever since he finished in second place on the 2009 series of the hit Fox reality TV show and this week, he managed to top the US Billboard Hot 200 with his latest album.
The second record released by the handsome singer has been a long time in the making, but it seems the wait was worth it as the “Better Than I Know Myself” hitmaker has managed to push it to debut in the top chart position, after it sold 77,000 copies.
It is the first time the glamorous performer has peaked so high, as his first album “For Your Entertainment” charted at number 3 back in 2009. Making it even more special, Adam is also now the first openly gay male singer to top the chart. Fellow Idol star Clay Aiken did hit the number one spot back in 2003 with “Measure of a Man”, however, this triumph occurred before he ‘came out.’
“Trespassing” also topped the Billboard Digital Albums Chart and Canada’s Digital Albums Chart.
It’s proving to be a huge year for Adam, as in February it was announced that he would take the stage with Queen again, this time to headline the U.K.’s Sonisphere Festival on July 7, 2012.
The performance will have particular significance for fans of the legendary band, as its location at Knebworth Park marks the site of Freddie Mercury’s final performance with Queen in the summer of 1986. In announcing the lineup, Sonisphere cited the “potent chemistry” between Lambert and Queen at the EMAs, as well as the event’s historic significance.
Last night the singer tweeted to thank his fans, writing:
WOW! #Trespassing made its debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 this week! Thank you to the Glamily for helping me make HISTORY!
