American Idol: Casey James leaves, Crystal and Lee for the final!

It wasn’t very shocking for viewers to discover that Casey James was eliminated on last night’s American Idol penultimate results show. Meaning that our two 2010 Idol finalists are Crystal Bowersox and new frontrunner Lee DeWyze.

Casey struggled on Tuesday night’s show with fairly ambivalent comments from the judges. After he performed OK, It’s Alright With Me, Simon Cowell said:

It’s lucky you have two song choices, because I would compare that first song to if you were having dinner, that’s the salad. In other words, there’s something hopefully more substantial to come. Because that song will leave no lasting effect on the audience whatsoever. And it kind of felt like you were busking for a couple of dollars rather than competing on the most important night of your life. I think that was a dud song choice.

The writing was on the wall….

Despite Casey having a very strong sense of his musical identity, the judges have never raved about him in the way they did about Crystal, Lee or even big Mike. If you’re a fan of Casey’s, you may feel that this week’s songs were career suicide/sabotage for him. After roundly criticising his first performance for being ‘alright’, it transpired that Randy and Kara had chosen an even sleepier, more boring song for him to sing.

After hearing his fate, Casey reprised Daughters from the previous evening, but gave an emotional performance where he walked through the audience, posed with a fan, hi-fived the judges and stole somebody’s little girl to finish the song.

How did you feel about Casey’s elimination last night? Would you buy his album if he lands a record deal? Leave your comments below.
