American Idol: Simon Cowell Wants To Lower Age Limit

American Idol judge, Simon Cowell has revealed that he intends to drop the age limit for American Idol in the near future.

Speaking to girlfriend Teri Seymour on US show Extra, he said: “All these shows, including Idol, in the future are going to have to go younger. We’re going to have to drop the age from 16 to 14 soon.”

Simon also encouraged contestants to turn on the waterworks, saying:

“[Crying] doesn’t do you any harm when you’re in a competition, especially if you’re a girl.”

    you should so lower that age. that would be better and
    i know a lot of 15 year olds that are good singers that will have to wait another year if you don’t.
    people don’t realize that if you don’t lower the age, they are just
    going to try out anyway.

    I think that you should keep it to 18 and older and perhaps extend the cuttoff age. The 15 year olds that are good will have several competitions to keep them busy when they turn 18. I wanted to try out for the competition, but every year they raised the age limit, I was a year too old. It was annoying. At the risk of tooting my own horn, I have a good voice. It would’ve been nice to give it a try.
