Annie Lennox got the rumours mills buzzing last night when she wore a HIV positive t-shirt for her appearance on Idol Gives Back.

Annie made her humanitarian statement and plea for help by satellite connection as the recent eruption of an Icelandic volcano led to her flight to America being cancelled.

For her segment, the ‘Into The West’ singer wore a T-Shirt emblazoned with a “HIV Positive” slogan. Don’t worry Annie is not HIV positive herself but wanted to show solidarity with those who are. She has previously sported the shirt on “Idol Gives Back” in 2008 and when she performed “Chain of Fools” with Aretha Franklin at the 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert.

She has previously admitted that she first saw a South African wearing a similar t-shirt in 2004 and embraced the idea. Annie said:

“In a country like South Africa, where HIV is so prevalent, and yet you have stigma where people are afraid to openly come out and say that they’re HIV positive. This t-shirt, whoever wears it, is making a statement of solidarity, and they’re saying, ‘We’re coming out from behind the shadows. We’re trying to normalize what is a preventable thing. It doesn’t need to have the stigma.’”
