Jim Carrey’s daughter Jane Carrey auditions for American Idol 2012 in San Diego
Jim Carrey’s daughter Jane Carrey was a surprise entrant to this year’s American Idol.
The 24 year old singer was featured on last night’s episode of the Fox singing show and was seen auditioning in San Diego for judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Tyler.
In her VT, the mum and sometimes waitress revealed that she has always had a passion for music and singing and that she had her dad’s blessing to enter the reality TV show.
However she revealed that having the same name as her famous father both ‘helps and hurts’ her career, as she feels people never get to know her or remember her for anything other than Jim Carrey’s offspring. Now she wants to ‘make her own way in the world.’
As Jane entered the audition room, Jennifer Lopez began recounting tales of times when she worked with Jim and admitted that she remembered back to when his daughter was just a young baby….we bet that made her feel more than a little old!
The hopeful sang ‘Something To Talk About’ by Canadian singer-songwriter Shirley Eikhard and we were actually very surprised by the power and control in her voice.
Afterwards Randy said:
I like you, I liked the voice, I like the potential.
J-Lo added:
I liked it too, I like the sound of your voice. i think you’re good, I think you need to think more about performing. You close your eyes a lot.
And Steve Tyler praised Jane saying:
You got good melody but you’ve got to work on the volume.
Jane is Jim’s daughter by his first wife, former actress and Comedy Store waitress Melissa Womer. Watch the video below and tell us if you think she deserved her spot in Hollywood.
