US singing sensation and American Idol judge, Mariah Carey has revealed that she hired extra security after her much publicised spat with fellow Idol judge, Nicki Minaj.
Minaj and Carey fell out spectacularly during one of this year’s October auditions, in a row that spiralled so out of control that producers were forced to stop filming for the day. During the dispute multi-award winner, Mariah claimed that Minaj was acting like a three year old to which Minaj reportedly responded by threatening to shoot the songstress dead.
It was this threat of gunfire that prompted Mariah, who has young twins with her presenter husband, Nick Cannon, to up her security claiming that she felt “unsafe” believing that Minaj would carry it out.
Minaj has categorically denied the allegations but, as Mariah told Barbara Walters in an interview on ABC News, she wasn’t taking any chances!
“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Carey explained.
“Anytime somebody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’ve got two babies… I’m not going to take any chances. I did hire more security. I felt it was the appropriate thing to do.”
Minaj and Carey have been hitting the headlines for months over their reported feud, with many suggesting it was all an act to gain publicity for the show. However, as we reported yesterday, during an American Idol press conference last week, after attempting to be nice to each other, and even paying each other compliments, both women resorted to catty and snappy remarks and deathly glares whenever the other made a remark.
