Adam Lambert will be picking up a very special award later this month and it’s been revealed that he will receive it from none other than Mel B.
It was confirmed recently that the American Idol star would be receiving the Davidson/Valentini GLAAD Award, a special trophy and accolade given annually by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation to an openly LGBT individual who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community.
This year Adam will pick up the trophy at a star studded ceremony and it’s been revealed that the former Spice Girls will be the one to hand over the gong.
The ‘For Your Entertainment’ singer will be honoured at the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco on May 11 and it seems that Mel is quite the fan. She called Lambert an “inspiration” to many, explaining:
“I’m a huge fan of those who open doors for social change and equality, and that’s why I’m so honoured and thrilled to present the GLAAD Media Award to the brilliant, talented, and very deserving, Adam Lambert! His fearlessness is an inspiration.”
The awards aim to pay tribute to “media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives”.
Adam is offering some of his fans the chance to win a special night at the awards. The prize will include tickets to the ceremony, as well as loads more VIP extras and Lambert tweeted this week saying:
“Win a trip for two to see me at the #glaadawards in San Francisco 5/11 – donate $10 to @GLAAD at http://glaad.org/win”
Explaining why Adam would be honoured at the awards, GLAAD’s Wilson Cruz said:
“Adam Lambert’s continued success as one of the world’s best-selling pop stars shows LGBT people that they can be themselves and make it in a mainstream industry that many feel unfairly rejects them. Adam is fearless on stage and astonishes audiences in every country he performs in.”
