Record label drops American Idol’s Lee Dewyze

Lee Dewyze is to American Idol, what Joe McElderry was to The X factor.

The former paint store worker won the US TV talent show in 2010, but already his label has dropped him and ruled out any chance of him releasing another record with them..

RCA Records boss Peter Edge confirmed the news and put the blame for Lee’s poor album sales on bad songs, saying that realistically that is all that sets him apart from more successful winners such as Kelly Clarkson.

He told Hollywood Reporter:

“We’ve seen American Idol winners come and go in a heartbeat, and we’ve seen them have great records, like Kelly Clarkson, starting with Since U Been Gone.”

He also mention former X Factor winner, Leona Lewis, who shot to fame in the UK and America, after her song Bleeding Love led to her landing a double-platinum debut album.

“If she didn’t have those songs, her notoriety would have probably gone away,” Edge added.

No word yet on what is planned for Lee’s future career, though a rep for DeWyze said that he is “in a good place right now”.
