Susan Boyle Didn’t Impress On Tonight’s Semi-Final

Susan Boyle came on to the stage on tonight’s Britain’s Got talent semi-final to a rapturous applause. The audience were delighted to see her and if we are honest she was probably the main reason most of us tuned in.
So when she launched into her performance of ‘Memories’ from Cats I found myself beginning to wonder what all the fuss was about. I’m not sure if it was just a bad song choice or if the Susan Boyle phenomenon was always about the story and not the singer. Susan hit more than few flat notes during the song and was so unimpressive that I was shocked and very disappointed when Simon and Co gushed over her so enthusiastically.
I am going to have to go and look up the video of her original performance and make sure that she actually could sing back then. Was it always just about the bad dress, frumpy appearance and bushy eyebrows? The worst thing is that after she got through tonight’s stage and did her funky little dance on stage, she stands a pretty good chance of winning this show on Saturday.

[...] Talent semi-final and on into Saturday’s grand final but there are those amongst us that were distinctly underwhelmed by her [...]
I thought excactly the same.
Shame Darth Jackson didn’t go through as I voted for him
I totally agree with you, her first performance was amazing, completely took my breath away. But after I logged onto youtube and watched her, I had to turn it off after the first few seconds, because it was just painful!
I love Susan Boyle, (and I try to say this without sounding cheesy)and I think she is an inspiration to every person, who may not be blessed in the looks department, that they can still pursue their dream despite of that, and one spark in a totally beauty compelled world.
I really want her to win, but she needs to step up her game so she does not just go through because of her reputation, and become exactly the singer that she stand out from (if that makes sense…)
Okay, take it easy on her….I myself, was once like her. I was in the final days of my US Marine Corps Rifle competition. Day by day my score went up until the final day, when moved from the 200m, 300m, then 500m range. I could sense I would break the All time record then and become the highest shooting champion. But as that image dawn on me, on the final day, moving from the 300m to the 500 range, Iwas all choked up by emotion, could not control my aim (no scope here just eye balls), and I missed by a point on my first 2 out of 10 final shots..I calmed down quickly (just like Susan) and the rest was all dead center and I broke ther record by just a point (could have been by 3 points). But we are all flesh and bone and emotion is not easy to control. THough I remain a champions (shooting later on to 1000m with just eye balls) I almost missed that record breaking moment. I know we should not judge a champion by just one moment of our carreer. Same with Susan…She will rise up again soon. let her come down from the clouds first….

Do we have to judge everything by a 100%. Yes Susan did a few notes poorly but judgement is over an entire song performance which is more than 3mins. April, commented she ‘turn it off after a few seconds’. I like to advise her not to watch anything in this world of imperfections. She might as well be blind. You made judgement on people after just a ‘few seconds’. I hope everything around you in home and office is perfect and you are living in a perfect environment. Be sincere and kind like ‘Jimmy, San Diego’ that’s the way to live.
I do agree that Susan’s performance was disappointing in the semi-final. Why is the media so sickening and determined to turn everyone into a flock of sheep. She just wasn’t so good. We like her spirit and good luck to her next time – but I fear the hype is spoiling the natural person who just enjoyed singing her heart out the first time.
Susan did a fabulous job the first time, the second song was not such a good choice. Watch the youtube tribute Susan Boyle where does she stand? She is compared against Aretha Franklin, Ruthie Henshaw, Hayley Westenra and Elaine Paige. Quite frankly, she leaves them all standing
I think Susan Boyle has a good voice etc. But I do think because of all the hype about her (mainly due to the fact that she’s not what the media would call attractive) it’s given her an unfair advantage and when you watch BGT they are practically saying that she is going to win which is unfair on all the other very talented contestants who have been overshadowed by Susan Boyle. She can sing yes, but is she the best talented act? I don’t think so.
I think if Susan Boyle had walked on stage first time round and looked totally gorgeous, we would all be saying she is an ‘ok’ singer and not much more. Why is it so hard for people to believe that short, fat, ugly people can be half decent at something? It’s not a totally alien concept to be fair. Same thing happened with Paul Potts (his album was slated by ACTUAL opera critics because he just doesn’t cut it) Oh my gosh somebody ugly on TV..lets put her on Oprah! The hype is ridiculous! Her rendition of Memories was fine but there are a million more people who could sing it a million times better. Good on her for having a go but we should be saying good on all the people who do the same. Only thing now is for her to stop milking her naffness and retreat from acting like a total moron on stage dancing!!
