‘Any Dream Will Do’ Pushed Forward

Any Dream Will DoThe BBC have decided to push forward with their reality TV show ‘Any Dream Will Do’, slotting it into Saturday evening and pitching it against ITV’s Grease is The Word.

The two shows run along a similar theme, the BBC is looking for the perfect Joseph for its West End show, while ITV want to find a great Sandy and Danny for their production of Grease.

A source at the BBC said:

“Instead of months to prepare, we’ve had weeks. We’re working long days to get it ready. It’ll be the biggest battle in recent telly history.”

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I detest it when TV channels pitch shows against each other like this…..how on earth can I keep up with both shows if they are on at the same time. Have some consideration!

If this goes as big as ‘how to solve a problem like maria’ which it is likely to do then the beeb will be laughing.

That said the scheduling does seem a little odd though, surely going directly against one another benefits neither company nor indeed, as you point out, their viewers!

This sounds like madness as it becomes obvious the viewers will be forced into making a choice to watch one and maybe record the other.

Its detestable to do this but I can see why its being done. This year promises to be a bumper year for reality TV talent shows of some description or another.
ITV viewers statistics have been falling of late in this direction and it is obvious that pitching themselves into direct battle is to see which channel will grab the viewing public.

ITV needs to keep the pressure up to guarantee successful advertising campaigns and sponsorships and the BBC are constantly having to justify the ever increasing license fee.

Pitching the two channels together is cunning tactics indeed.

The question is what programme would you prefer to watch? Grease is the word with loads of advertising in between programme slots or Any dream will do, with no advertising between programme slots.

You have to remember that the abolishion of license fees is also an area for debate that has been raised recently alongside BBC salaries, and changes in exceutives posts.

Love the idea of a Castle. Think I will probably prefer ‘Any Dream will do’, on grounds of quality and not being bombarded by advertising.

We have an extra to look forward to here with the search for a choir.

    What’s your choice?

well i will be watching any dream will do, even though I’ve never seen Joseph…..! because I have the feeling it will be more like how do you solve a problem like maria, and I loved that programme so much (because connie was on it and I love connie!) but I hope both are successful R xx
