Any Dream Will Do: Seamus Cullen

Seamus Cullen: Any Dream Will DoSeamus Cullen, 35

A sales & marketing worker from Willesden Green, London.

Born in the United States and now based in London, Seamus Cullen is the oldest member of the group.

He was educated in Virginia, Cornwall and Cork and made his first appearance on BBC TV as a choirboy at the age of ten.

He has worked for years in IT, marketing and events, is currently training to become a teacher and believes that he would make a “powerful, emotionally engaging and sensitive Joseph.”

Seamus attended the London auditions, and says that he has found the process “emotional”, but now that the 12 have been chosen, “everything has become focused and we can all start believing that dreams can come true.”

Seamus Cullen was eliminated from Any Dream Will Do on the 28th of April. For more information on his last performance and his angry comments click here.

I think Seamus is awesome… I don’t agree with the way they keep picking on his age…so what if he’s 35….he doesn’t look it.

I think the TV people are manipulating the viewers as they seem to be overly negative when it comes to him.

    Let’s give Seamus a chance!!

  2. Holly says:

If the contest is genuinely based on talent, charisma, performance, voice… then this guy should win.

He clearly is the best suited to the role.

He also seems far better in terms of being a role model for young guys - in terms of making singing ‘cool’.

  3. suzie says:

    I think Seamus should win

    from a Shaky Fan

  4. lydia says:

Seamus is a pretentious idiot! what an idiot! ‘and i will have a show of my own’ total pratt!!!
    im glad he is out!

[...] Seamus Cullen has left Any Dream Will Do tonight, after facing a sing off with Ben [...]

  6. Anthony says:

Well said Lydia. I think Andrew was spot on when he said if Seamus was so good why hasn’t he got a top role already.

    I’m glad he’s gone.

  7. lydia says:

its cos he is so arrogant… and totally self centred… like john said a few weeks ago, a leading man has to LEAD and be part of the company, not seperate him self off from it…
he is a very bitter man…
my actual thought at the end of the show was… oh we have the darius of any dream will do with his ’show of my own’ comment
what we do know is that andrew aint gonna write him a show…

  8. Noz says:

Seamus was by far the best tonight - anyone who didn’t vote doesn’t know talent if it were to hit them in the face. Andrew’s coment about “why aren’t you a star” was unbelievably ridiculous from a man of his stature - how many people are trying to be in film, theatre etc everyday? There are better Joesephs who will never be Joseph for that very reason.

As for the rest of the Josephs only one left noe - Daniel, the rest are talentless, dull, wooden and flat, and if any of them win, then I certainly won’t be going to the show.

  9. Natalie says:

I noticed the change of words at the end of the song (prat) - did anyone else see how he pushed the others away who had to take his coat off and fought to keep it on?? Ha!!

I’m glad he’s gone, the selfish arrogant twat. He doesn’t deserve a leading role with an attitude like that - I wouldn’t pay peanuts to see him on stage in “a show of his own”.

  10. beevee says:

I don’t think he was pushing the others away - I think the jacket wasn’t coming off that easily…
I think Seamus unfortunately (unwittingly?) gave people too much ammunition (those cleverly-edited video interview clips!!)
I have a horrible suspicion that ALW made a very calculated (deliberately controversial?) decision last night. It was clearly not based on talent or strength of performance. I’d be fascinated to hear what anyone else makes of it…

  11. Marie Lewis says:

The important thing in casting Joseph is that, apart from talent in singing, acting and movement, he has to appeal to young girls, in order to get the mass bookings required.
I believe that Daniel is the most talented, specially in audience communication and singing, but will not appeal to the target audience. Lee is too polished: he has a patina of experience and people can see through that. He, like Daniel, will appear too old (although he is not) to female teenagers.

Although nit the most talented, the boy band looks of Lewis would attract bigger audiences and, to ALW and all the people who have invested in the show, this is what matters.

  12. Marie Lewis says:

Sorry for the typo: That should have been “Although not the most talented…”

  13. Jean says:

Though I was never sure that he was Joseph, I would definitely like to Seamus star elsewhere. I hope he does have a show of his own, or somebody gives him one.
It was very mean of the producers, to make viewers vote twice. I suspect, with Seamus, that the scond vote might have been a set-up. I knew if Seamus was ever in a sing off, ALW would vote him off. His earlier performance was sizzling hot. Though Joseph would have tried to hang onto his coat, by the end of the last song Seamus was singing, not Joseph. This was a mistake as a good actor stays in the role throughout, but we are all human and all make mistakes sometimes, including ALW.

  14. Chatfan says:

last week i posted a comment stating seamus would loose this week purely on attitude, who knows if this is true but I believe he lost for being a self important donkeybutt. I guess he did NOT get the hints from the panel urging him to be a team player. Talking back to the judges.. how stupid can you be..

And this rubbish about not performing at Live8 because he had to sing at a wedding?!?!?! Right and that will make us do what? Vote for you because you have thrown away such a opportunity?!?! What a moron, glad he is gone. Lets face it, this will be between Keith and Lee.

  15. Jean says:

I did not say that was thoroughly by every single one of Seamus’s performances until the very last. I want to see much more of him. He is a very talented entertainer. I want to see him in a show of his own.

  16. mark street says:

Seamus gave us cringing performance last night. He showed his true colours -arrogant, insincere & revolting. These `colours` are not found in Josephs dream coat.

  17. Paul Lewis says:

Listen up. do you really think that the decision on who is going to be Joseph rests with what the British viewing public vote for, then you are very seriously mistaken. ‘Any Dream Will Do’ is a multi-million pound production with plenty of dosh invested by the likes of ALW. ALW has decided from day one who he wants to play the part, and the show is just a big promotional exercise for when the musical hits the stage. The votes, I’m afraid, will not make a jot of difference, as they will be totally manipulated from the start. I know Seamus and the lyric change was totally intentional because it is true. And if you want to know who the winner is, well it is……nah, I’ll just let you waste your money on voting each week!!!

  18. Helen B says:

I thought that Seamus was the most talented of the potential Josephs, and that he has probably been victim of ‘clever’ editing. It’s become clear to me now that this show is not about talent but about ticket sales. If gurning muppet boy Keith wins I’ll be forced to retreat into listening to my old Smiths CD’s and giving up on popular culture entirely. And I love a show tune too !

  19. Louise says:

I think it was the bitterness of Seamus that made him so shameful last night. I do not need some desperate for fame, mop headed idiot breaking the news to me that the reality show I am watching may have an agenda and be slightly biased. Very patronising indeed Seamus - I think we all know what the shows are about, he was not giving us pearls of wisdom there. The fact is his face did not fit, for whatever reason (most likely his attitude). ALW has a right to choose who works in his own productions and is experienced enough to take a view on who he would like to work with. The show is entertainment. I am happy with that.

  20. Marie says:

If the person who “knows Seamus” thinks that Seamus’ display of petulance will warm anyone to him, then he is sadly mistaken. If it really was intentional, then it was very badly done. It will not have won him friends among other theatrical producers.

  21. Natalie says:

    Very well said Louise!

Going back to the coat being taken off - if anyone has this recorded please look at it again as Seamus acted like a very spoilt toddler having a tantrum!

Whether he can sing or not and whether the show is “rigged” or not is irrelevant - Seamus is the most obnoxious, conceited, arrogant person I have ever seen on this type of show and maybe if he looks at footage he may (but I doubt it because his head is too far up his own backside) see exactly where he is going wrong!

  22. Betty M says:

    Well said Louise!

If anyone has recorded this show please look back at it as Seamus does have a temper tantrum as the coat is coming off.

Whether Seamus can or cannot sing, or whether the show is “rigged” is completely irrelevant - the public saw him (I am assuming as I did) as a conceited, arrogant prat who has his head so far up his own backside he fails to see why people are not choosing him.

  23. Tracey says:

If anyone has a recording of last nights shows ( either DVD or video) they can spare me a copy of I would be extremely grateful ! My husband set the DVD however neither shows recorded! Im really gutted! I will pay for your postage & packaging & also send a new DVD or video as a replacement. ( Im also making sure we dont go out for the remainder of the series - that’ll teach him !!)

  24. m says:

I think Seamus unfortunately got his just deserts, while I agree that he is very talented, he came across as arogant and self-centred. The judges had already tried to warn him of this by reminding him that as the leading man he would have to work as part of a team. This should have been his cue to get on with everyone and lose the attitude. He chose to ignore the advice and so he is gone. No-ones fault but his own. If you want it bad enough you do everything you can to get it. He obviously didn’t want it badly enough.

  25. Betty M says:

Sorry - I see I’ve made a boob. I had prepared to post a comment and realised it was still in my daughter’s name as she had done one earlier. Thought I had retrieved it and sent it in my name! Obviously not. Have since seen a comment by Tracey - sorry can’t help, recording done on Sky Plus. So much easier!

  26. Georgie says:

I totally agree with those who think that Seamus is an arrogant prat. He completely ignored all the panel’s attempts to make him more sociable with the other the other Josephs. But I don’t think that’s the only reason he went. When it came to the sing-off Ben was better, ALW is big on ‘acting the song’ and Ben did just that. I think the age thing also did have to come into play because the most successfull Josephs (Jason, Donny) toured with the show for years and the fact is that after a while a man of Seamus’s age wouldn’t be able to cope with that…after all the problems with Konnie Fisher not doing shows I’m sure ALW doesn’t want that again.

  27. Noz says:

Seamus will be back - trouble is most of the public voting prefer pretty boys with no telent or charisma, OK so he may be a bit arrogant, but you don’t win by being nice either, (not talking about a rigged show like this but real life). ALW just wants to sell the show, not necessarily have the best Joseph.

  29. Chatfan says:

Seamus will probably vanish into thin air, the fact he took a 100 pound wedding gig over a Live8 concert performance means he is more desperate then talented. lol

and to be honest I did think he had one of the blandest soul-les voices. No personality just like a lot of the kids and for a 35 year old ’suppose to be’ full grown talented thats pretty sad.

Besides, typical that the only yank turns out to be the prat with the big mouth.
