Any Dream Will Do: Seamus Cullen…A Show Of His Own
Shockingly, Seamus Cullen has left Any Dream Will Do tonight, after facing a sing off with Ben Ellis.
I have got the feeling that Andrew wasn’t a big Seamus fan for weeks now so his choice to save Ben was no real shock.
As the show closed and Seamus sang Close Every Door To Me, but he changed the lyrics. The closing line should have been sang “I have been promised a land of my own” but Seamus sang “I have been promised a SHOW of my own.”
So was this just extreme optimism or has Seamus already lined up a job in a major show in case the Joseph thing didn’t work out. I would really love to know as I was an unashamed Seamus fan!

Naah I think this is a typical example of why seamus was kicked out: he has a major atitude problem. I guess he came in thinking this was going to be HIS show

I think it’s a real travesty that Seamus has left the competition, he was certainly in the top 3 contenders. Andrew’s comments earlier in the evening were very ageist, shame on you Andrew, as a huge fan of yours for many many years I really thought you were made of better stuff. Wrong decision tonight!!

I do think it is ridiculous that someone only 35 years old, should be constantly told that he is the ‘old’ one in the competition, which clearly has nothing to do with his talent.
However, criticisms that Andrew Lloyd Webber is ageist are also fairly absurd. If Seamus was not suited for the part (as Andrew clearly thought he was not)than he deserves to go - whether because of his age, or because, amazingly, Ben pulled it out of the bag at the last minute and, in my opinion, sang better than he’s ever sung before.
Clearly, Seamus did have an ‘attitude problem’ (none of the other contestants ran up to hug him at the end, like they did with Antony). If he didn’t get on with the group, he probably wouldn’t succeed as a leading man.
Obviously there were people who were weaker than him, and he probably didn’t deserve to leave NOW, but neither did Ben, and so I think Andrew made the right decision in getting rid of someone who obviously wasn’t suitable for the part, didn’t get on with the others, and was so self-obsessed as to think that only a ‘conspiracy theory’ could chuck him out of the competition, rather than any personal failure on the night.

Seamus really isnt arrogant at all. I remember him from Somerset back in the day and he always had and made time for everyone. We spent some time in the same benedictine community some time ago, where the ethos was not about where you got to, but rather the journey to get there. Andrew really missed the point. To be 35 and still searching is really only the result of not having single mindedly seen and wanted something all your life. The fact that Seamus has done a wide variety of things both increases his life experience, but also I bet will make him all the more grateful and humble for every chance that comes his way. Hopefully there will still be many

The exit of Seamus on Saturday smacks of some kind of stich up. What does Lloyd-Webber know that we don’t. Although not my first choice for Joseph (that’s Lee), Seamus was still a hot contender. Age should not be an issue (he looks younger in fact than Rob or Daniel). Also, what was behind the change of lyric in the finale song, can Seamus let us in on the secret?

I think Seamus was brilliant - I would certainly pay to see him on stage in a lead role in the West End. Isn’t that REALLY what it’s all about?

Hmm..
I think Seamus was just arrogent. He was so cocky and up himself. He tried to tell everyone INCLUDING judges that they were wrong.
And notice how he claimed he thought it was a “Conspiricy theory”. Luckily Andrew stopped him going on. And he was so angry when he left.
Also notice how none of the other Josephs ran up to hug him and they did to everyone else.
Shame though. He was really good.
And I think the whole age thing was stupid. The reason he didn’t get through was because he was horrible >_

I felt really bad about Seamus being kicked off, right up until he started with all his ridiculous comments. Everyone else who have left the show, although upset have been graceful about it, and his reactions just made me glad he had gone. I always thought Seamus was in the top 5 and was shocked he went, but was glad to see the back of him after all that!! I was in the audience on Saturday and at the end, you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. The judges looked upset at his comments. However, although you didn’t see it on TV - all the other Josephs did run up and hug him afterwards. Ben really was amazing in that sing off though, and he really did outsing Seamus. Was also shocked about Anthony going - talking of ages, see how mature and graceful the 17 year old was compared to someone much older (seamus) - although I do strongly agree that age should NEVER come into it, and that it was stupid how they all kept going on about it!
Lee Mead to win, he is a true superstar!!

i cant believe Seamus went, i was really up for the show down between hin and that other curly haired narcissus Lee. Whats wrong with people, Can I be the only one who appreciates hair like THAT. i just loved his inappropriate arrogance - that he doesnt realise by now (hes 35) you have to grovel to get on in life even if you know you have everything (and he does), you’ve got to be humble when the timing demands ie in front of a withered old Lord who holds your fate in his hands. Oh Seamus I would have married you in a flash and made you Lord Chancellor(Im a lawyer)even though thats wholly inappropriate.

Seamus is arrogant and people don’t like that, it is as simple at that

I also want Lee to win, he seems lovely and always gives flawless performances

Seamus is a big talent. Until the last “vote off” his every performance was great. I agree that there was some very nasty editing going on and that once Seamus had decided to do the previously agreed wedding instead of Andrew’s gig, (Andrew expects 100% commitment to his project, which means giving up all other commitments), the second vote was a set-up to get rid of Seamus, without an outcry from the people who voted for him. Seamus’s singing was not good in the sing-off and he did not go gracefully, but I really hope to see him one day in a show of his own. He could call it, “A show of my own.” He should do this soon whil he is very much in the public memory. Certainly if he comes to Devon I would like to see him. I also hopes he get to make recordings of his own.

My previous comment ought to have said “I think” the second vote was a set-up. All was my thought on what has happened rather than fact.

Just saw Seamus in Evita playing “Che” with my mother.
He was great.
Amazing voice.
