Is John Barrowman Fattist?
John Barrowman has been accused of being ‘fattist’ this week after comments he made about applicants to the BBC’s new reality show, Any Dream Will Do.
John will appear on the Charlotte Church show tonight, and Charlotte confronts him saying:
“You were quoted last week in the press saying that fatties need not apply”.
To which John replies: “That was a mis-quote and what I actually said was that you have to be physically fit in order to perform in eight shows a week, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a size 0.
“It doesn’t mean you have to be thin to be physically fit … you can still be full figured”.
Do you believe him?

Hello Brad and Tabbykat, A new blog style and commenting instruction. Looks very posh.
John Barrowman fattist, yes. Sadly, the only time you will ever see large people singing and dancing on a stage today will be in the local pub. The same could be said about age, that the judges for these shows are ageist, rarely will someone over the age of 35 be selected at first hand to be in modern musicals. It is very difficult indeed for those to carry on with musical careers over the age of 35 also.
For a professional dancer the days of getting lots of engagements for performances start to run thin past the age of 35. All in all the theatre is all of these things fattist, ageist, sexist. However, the majority of professional artists know this and plan to have a future through an alternative career that works in conjunction
with there interests in music and drama.

No he’s not! He’s always said that people should accept people for who they are…..
He’s someone who has had to overcome many *ists in his work – why would he be one himself
NO he isn’t at all fattist, in fact JOHN BARROWMAN is a rare thing in show business a truly great guy, who says what he thinks with knowledge, experience, fairness, decency and respect for the individual/s he may be talking about.Rod.
I watched the show last night on channel 4…John is not fattist at all. I remember reading an interview a while back in which John said he can appreciate men and women for their physical attributes and when it comes to size he said it’s healthier to be a little more fuller figured. I’ve met John Barrowman twice and I must say he’s one of the most generous and kindest of performers I’ve ever met – he’s a fantastic guy and isn’t at all fattist. I’ve got a fuller figure and I think size 0 is unhealthy and ridiculous.
John Barrowman is not fattist, the media always change the words of celebs. You have to be phisically fit to perform that many shows a week! i dont understand how people can turn this around and say what he meant was no fat people apply! John barrowman is a decent man and is not at all fattist!
i dont think he’s fattist. it was just a misunderstanding and maybe it didnt come out the way he intended.
i dont think hed be prejudice agianst someone else because i watched him in an interview a while ago where he said he was made fun of as a kid when he moved to america from scotland (because of his accent) and that’s when he learned to talk in an american accent.
so he should know how it feels. besides, the joseph does have to be fit so thats why he said that.
