Last night sixteen new housemates walked through the doors to the Big Brother house. The line-up was the biggest ever in the programme’s history, and for the first time ever in a summer series a real-life couple entered the house.

But this summer Big Brother has vowed to be tougher than ever on the housemates, so from the word go, the game-playing was on. The challenge? For the real-life couple - Mario and Lisa - to pretend they in fact aren’t a real-life couple. And their secret mission extends to two other housemates, Stephanie and Luke, who also have to conceal the fact - with Stephanie masquerading as Mario’s girlfriend. But will they pull it off? Or will it be mission impossible… and could there be the sound of wedding bells on the horizon?

Here’s what we didn’t see last night after the launch show ended…..

10.15pm: The final 16 housemates have been in the house for 25 minutes. The bedroom doors open and they discover two very different bedrooms - one plush and one basic. The majority of the boys agree to take the basic bedroom.

10.55pm: Stephanie is in the diary room talking to Big Brother about the secret task. She is suspicious that Big Brother is playing a double bluff on her and that perhaps the real task is that she and Luke must find out that Mario and Lisa aren’t actually a couple. She confronts Mario but he’s bewildered and tells Stephanie to concentrate on pretending to be his girlfriend.

12.27am: All the housemates are in the living room with some new instructions from Big Brother. Each housemate will be given five tokens. One token can be redeemed against one of the following: a days worth of hot water, the use of a hair dryer, hair clippers, hair straighteners or nail scissors. The housemates do not know when Big Brother will give them more tokens.

1.57am: Lisa talks to Big Brother in the Diary Room about how she is coping with the task. She tells them she’s doing okay but will find it harder during the week as she’s not allowed to touch him. She also thinks the other housemates will be really surprised when the truth unfolds.

2.29am: Darnell and Mohamed are in the garden talking about which girls they fancy in the house. Darnell likes Sylvia, Rachel and Stephanie and adds it’s a shame that she’s in a relationship. Mohammed likes Sylvia and Rachel too.

3.55am: In the Diary Room, Stephanie says she’s finding pretending to be Mario’s girlfriend tough. She says she might have to spend the night in the same bed as him and moans that he snores. In the bedroom Mario is fast asleep … snoring.
