Big Brother 2011: Marcus Bentley jumped at the chance to come back
Marcus Bentley has revealed that he was worried Channel 5 bosses wouldn’t want him to narrate this year’s Big Brother series.
The 43 year old broadcaster and former actor provided the voice over for all previous seasons of the show on Channel 4 but when it moved homes for 2011, he admitted that he worried they would want a fresh new sound and he wouldn’t get to be involved.
He told The Daily Star:
“I’m overwhelmed to think it’s coming back. When I heard they wanted me to do it I was quite emotional. It’s been my life for over a decade and I was worried they’d go for a completely new look and get someone else in.”
Marcus revealed that he didn’t even take any time to consider the offer when it was made, adding:
“When I was offered it I didn’t give it a second thought – I said yes straightaway.”
Though he loves his job, having such a recognisable voice does have it’s problems and Marcus admitted that he can’t avail of telephone banking or takeaway ordering anymore, because he always gets laughed at.
He chuckled:
“I had to get the wife to pay the gas bill on the phone because if I do it the staff just end up giggling and get me to repeat everything.
“Someone got hold of my mobile number once and they kept ringing to hear my answerphone. And people ask me every day if I can record messages for them.
“I used to be an actor but I never thought I’d become famous for my voice. I’m grateful to Big Brother that I’m famous for something.”
Marcus revealed on Twitter two days ago that he was moving to Channel 5, writing:
Right guys! I’ve waited since April to say this … So here goes, I AM THE VOICE OF BIG BROTHER!
