Big Brother Australia Cancelled

The end is nigh!!!!! Australian TV channel, Network 10, have axed Big Brother after its seventh series.

This years series saw BB bosses bring Pamela Anderson into the house, however this hasn’t given the show enough of a ratings boost and today the channel announced its decision to cancel the show.

Ten chief executive Grant Blackley said the network was “confident this is the right decision at the right time”.

“We are immensely proud of the show and the incredible success it has enjoyed,” programming head David Mott said. “We’re ending the season on a high.”

He added: “Big Brother is the undisputed grand-daddy of modern, commercial reality television in Australia. Today’s reality dramas have all, on some level, been inspired by Big Brother.”

“The show has taken on topics of race, sex, homosexuality, eating disorders and alcohol abuse, many of which had been handled gingerly, if at all, on TV.”

So is this the beginning of the end for Big Brother? Do you think Channel 4 should follow suit? Leave your comments below!

The Ten Network chief programmer, David Mott, confirmed the current series would be the last, saying the decision had followed continuing analysis and rising concern with the falling ratings.

“The audience know how it works, the housemates know how it works,” Mott told the Sydney Morning Herald.

    THEN CHANGE THE PROGAM

this years was really good!! because they inroduced new things!!!

if they change it then DUHHHH MORE RATINGS AND MORE FUN!!!

  4. Channel 4 should cancel Big Brother after this series because it’s lost it’s popu;arity and they’re trying to hard to revive it, and now we have;
    Big Brother
    Big Brother Live (yawn)
    Big Brother: Diary Room Uncut
    Big Brothers Big Mouth,
and constant repeats of all of the above, BB takes up to much time, and has been boring ever since Series 3 or 4 ended

Im actually pretty sad that Big Brother got cancelled. I was wanting to enter it when i got older. It was a pretty good show and i especially enjoyed this years season for some reason (oh, and last years). So yeah, but i do think that it was talking up to much time. i reckon normal shows and FNL was enough. But anyway, im pretty sad its cancelled.

This is typical! BB Oz is so different from the UK version. Our version is chavvy, god awful, tacky, tastless etc etc. Yet, ours is safe. Yet, BB Oz is most likely over with? It should be the other way around. I don’t understand how on earth C4 gets 3.3m viewers to watch our version.

Ugh… they’re idiots. The only way they can think of making the show more interesting is by making it completely different and stupid.

If BBAU stuck to their original ideas it would still be alive.

I noticed a trend emerging in the BB series (in Aus). The early BB’s had really awesome personalities that you could really get attached to, and the show was about having fun and watching them have fun etc.

The later BB’s had mostly housemates that were only there to get into arguments, and they were mostly annoying. Just seeing some of these people completely put me off of watching the show, and the show started to be about punishing the housemates and making their life in the house miserable.

Watch the Australian BB 2004, and then compare it to BB 2008 and you will see what I mean.

I downloaded AU_BB_2004 off torrent, and I’m watching it now (for the second time, although I forgotten about most of what happened), and I’ve got to say, I really really love it. I’m about half way through and I’m seriously addicted. BB 2008 on the other hand, I barely watched because it was just so… crap.

So don’t blame the loss of ratings because the show is getting old. The show is fine, its just changed to become crap.

I know the producers of BB in Aus are probably not going to read this comment, but if they do (and hopefully they do), I can give me advice on how to get the show back:

    1) Choose friendly, funny, kind people. It’s important that their personality is good, as well as how they look. I don’t mean they have to *look* attractive, but normally a persons face can tell you a lot about them, and you can like a person more if they have a friendly looking face.

    2) Design the house so it feels like a house. Choose a design that when the viewer gets used to it, it feels comfortable for them. Don’t make the house look too fancy or too dull. Don’t make it look like a space station, make the atmospheres in all the rooms unique and comfortable.

    3) Let the housemates have fun! Don’t be so harsh as to put them in a shitty mood, and keep the show honest.

Well, that’s my two cents. Hopefully they will bring the show back in a few years time and it will be great.
