Can Big Brother Survive After The Least Popular Final Ever?

Did I mention that I was at the Big brother final last night? Well in case you missed it in previous posts…..guess what? I was!! Though I enjoyed the show thoroughly, it would appear that many of you did not and decided to tune out and do something else instead.

The warm up guy who ‘motivated’ the live audience for the show last night told us that they were expecting 11 million viewers for the final. Now I don’t know if he was being seriously optimistic or just lying but lets face it there was never any chance of that happening.

In reality the show received an average of 4.71 million viewers (23%). Now it is true to say that this is the lowest viewing figures that a Big Brother UK final has ever achieved, but in essence they weren’t that much lower than last year. Last years final attracted 5.3 million viewers (29%).

Can Big brother survive? Will there be another series? My guess would be yes. Although it’s heyday is gone, Big Brother is still a popular and profitable show for Channel 4. It acheived substantially more viewers than popular US TV show, Ugly Betty which attracted 2.93 million and I think the franchise has at least two more series left in it. Hopefully one will be an ‘All Star’ season, where our favourite housemates from years gone by return for one last summer of madness!

That would be brilliant to have a Big Brother with all the old BB winners. Perhaps they should do that next year and give the ordinary BB a break.
