Richard is one of my fave housemates this year - being Canadian myself, I can appreciate his dry wit and have no issue with his accent at all. I think your take on him is far too cynical and off the mark. Richard seems to genuinely care for those who he has become close too, and is simply happy for his friends. Once out of the house, I think he will be startled to learn that Nikki isn't seen as as endearing and that her love for Pete was probably motivated more by personal ambition than true emotion.

I like Richard - he is genuine, unpretentious and for my money, the one who has exposed more of his real self (good and bad) during the series than anyone else save Aislyne. I'd love to see her win!
