Jade Goody Leaves Indian Big Brother After Being Diagnosed With Cervical Cancer
Jade Goody has left the Indian Big Brother house after learning that she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer.
Max Clifford told BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat Goody was “extremely upset and frightened and will be back as soon as they can get her on a plane”.
“Jade had some tests recently, then she went off to India to appear in the Indian Big Brother,” Mr Clifford said.
“Yesterday we got a call from her consultant to say she had cancer of the cervix and so she has to come back straight away.”
He added: “We put the consultant in touch with the programme maker in India and because of the circumstances was allowed to speak to her and explain the results of her tests.”
“The important thing is to get her back as soon as possible and get this treated.
Is it very cynical to be suspicious that Jade and Max had planned this drama all along? Of course we have no proof and as a woman and mother myself I would wish cervical cancer on no one, but one has to wonder about the timing of this announcement. Is it possible that Jade knew about the cancer before entering the BB house but went anyway to generate some publicity and sympathy and worm her way back onto the front pages?

I don’t know about the whole thing. You’d think that if you were being tested for cancer, you’d stay put.
As for her diagnosis - I am very sorry that she has cervical cancer. I do, however, hope she uses this as an opportunity to educate others.
Over 90% of cases of cervical cancer are caused by the sexually transmitted infection, HPV (the human papilloma virus). Not everyone that has HPV will get cervical cancer, but nearly everyone who has cervical cancer has HPV. According to studies, over 85% of people who are sexually active have been exposed to HPV.
Once Jade has come through this ordeal (and since it’s got a cure rate of 99% if caught early, I’m confident that she will), here’s hoping that she uses her experience to educate women and young girls (and men, as well) about one form of cancer that is highly preventable through safer sex.
