Aidan Davis & Hollie Steel Reach Saturday’s Final

Aidan Davis and Hollie Steel have won a place in Saturday night’s Britain’s Got Talent final.
Aidan won the first place leaving Greg Pritchard and Hollie Steel to battle it out for the judges vote.
All the judges opted for Hollie which is going to cause a huge kickup amongst the viewers. There is already a backlash of people suggesting that Hollie’s earlier breakdown was an act and a plan to help her get through to the final. I think people need to remember that Hollie is a ten year old girl and not a criminal mastermind!

biggest. mistake. ever.
Her mum has brains though. and if she did genuinely break down then she’s clearly not ready for this.
no, she isnt a criminal mastermind, her mother is. At the end, she was wiping her imaginary tears away, and acting like the best mother in the world.
Reality TV is a sad thing when you can’t even make it a little like reality.
She behaved like a brat and she got through.
What does that teach children?
If she was 10 years older she wouldn’t of been given a second chance and wouldn’t get the sympathy and then final would be a a better place! (with Gregg Pritchard)
Gregg gave a much better performance than Hollie!
Hollie didn’t even give commiserations to Gregg or shake his hand because she is selfish rat faced brat!
This upset me considerably, both as a mother of a ten year old and an music educator.
This clearly overwrought and anxious child was on stage and broke down. She needed to be taken home, given a cuddle and told that there will be other opportunities to shine in her life. A valuable lesson is learned by not always having things turn out the way you want. Instead….what happens?….she cries..her unhinged mother begs (this is when she should have wrapped her daughter up in her arms and taken her home) 50,000 people phone Offcom…Simon Cowell overrules the producer…and a child learns how to manipulate, though I think it is reasonably clear to anyone with a brain that you need a role model.
This was by far the most unjust thing I have ever seen on this show..an evening of adults manipulated by a whinging child and a defining moment in “car crash” TV.
I was very upset and angered by the scenes which were shown on the live show of Britain’s Got Talent this evening. My main concern was the behaviour and treatment of Hollie Steel, the 10 year old contestant in the programme. Hollie’s breakdown on stage during her performance highlighted the fact that younger contestants are more susceptible to nerves and the pressures of performing in front of such a large audience. Firstly, I think that the age of contestants should be taken into consideration, and perhaps an age limit should be introduced. Secondly, I believe that the reaction to Hollie was absolutely appalling.I think that the judges were showing complete favouritism in allowing her more time and a second chance. Earlier on in the show, Amanda Holden stated to Luke Clements that contestants had 2 minutes in which they were to perform to the best of their ability. This was not the case with Hollie, as the judges allowed her extra time, and another shot. Earlier in the series, Simon Cowell told singer Jamie Pugh that he would have to “come to terms with the fact that your nerves are always gonna hold you back, because if you cant do it now, I don’t know if you’re ever going to be able to do it again…you may have to come to terms with the fact, Jamie, that this is not for you.” I think that had the same attitude been shown to Hollie Steel, she would not have her place in the Final. It is important to realise the message that this reaction sends out to impressionable children who are the same age or younger than Hollie: crying, begging and throwing a tantrum will be rewarded. Due to the fuss caused by the judges allowing Hollie to perform again, I believe that later acts, Greg Pritchard in particular were given a severe disadvantage. Due to time constraints, and the fuss caused, this would have added extra pressure on the acts to follow Hollie. In Greg’s case, when the public voted for him to be in the top 3 acts, if the judges been voting for talent (which is the apparent focus of the competition) instead of voting on what could be argued to be sympathy, then perhaps Greg would have had a place in the final instead.
I’m with Lauren – it was unfair on so many levels. They had just buzzed other acts for not being more challenging than their audition – Hollie’s was similar to her audition, Gregg’s was MORE challenging than his audition, and more challenging than most acts. They buzzed other acts for not getting exciting in the first minute. Then Simon criticized Gregg for having a dramatic opening! He said he was trying to sing both like a man and like a woman. No, he was singing both as a tenor and countertenor. Simon should have done some music homework after Greg’s audition. Gregg had some wobbles, but he didn’t miss his first note like Susan Boyle did. And Hollie did not nail her last note – it was off-tune! Shaheen and Shaun missed a few notes too.
If you watch the longer video clips on YouTube, you can see Greg had a pressured start – the stage wasn’t ready and Dec had to stall. Why? Someone put them 5 minutes behind schedule! And then the huge cape production (probably done by the producers, not Greg on his own) caused Greg problems. Simon buzzed him when he didn’t buzz Hollie for just stopping. Greg recovered like a professional.
The BGT website was running clips of Aidan and Hollie all day. No special treatment for Greg. They didn’t post Greg’s video until after the voting – so anyone watching via web to vote wouldn’t have seen his act. When they did post the clip, they CUT OUT his discussion with Ant and Dec! Hollie’s videos, meanwhile, don’t include her earlier temper tantrum. They closed the comments on Britain’s Got Talent because of the backlash.
And also – yesterday Simon put 2 Grand ahead because of the grandfather’s age. Who need BGT more, a 24-year-old who probably has his last chance to go to music college or into the music profession, or a little girl who is already enrolled in a special school. Sigh. Notice that Greg is the one act where Simon BOTH times wouldn’t say how he felt. He would barely even look Greg in the eye today.
I completely agree. A crying, manipulative child who throws a tantrum should not be having it her way. What do you learn from that? The next time she doesn’t get something, she throws a tantrum and cries, and will expect people to give it her way. I’m sorry dear, the world does not revolve around you. The earlier a child learns this lesson, the better. It’s a cruel world, but it’s true.
On another note, I think Greg could have done much better. Although I think the judges are so biased that no matter what Greg did, they would have given it to Hollie.
The world is unfair.
I really do hope we see more of Greg. I would pay to see him perform live.
Well, whatever….that tiny girl Hollie was given a second chance (and if you would check archives, other contestants have been in the past given a second chance to perform in the same show)and she came back and ‘hit the ball out-of-the-park (to use an old American expression). I, a U.S. Marine, could not have done that.
This girl is not a criminal, but I really and truly believe, that we saw an act of a spoilt little girl. If you have any children in your environment, you’ll know that kids often cry when they want to reach or get something. Especially if they learnt that it worked out in the past. I don’t know the family and the circumstances but especially if a child was ill for a time and the parents were worried, parents tend to spoil a child. I was absolutely neutral when I saw the clip, but she was not crying, she just was acting as if. And she screamed again loud, when she wasn’t allowed to repeat the song, when everything was ok again, when they told her, there’ll be the time. And to tell the truth, what worries me most is, that this little girl learnt again, that she comes through with this tactic. A child should never be blamed for being spoiled, it’s not her fault, but it’s the parents fault. I think, experiences like this will change her life – in a bad way. So the decision wasn’t right.
I have to agree with the other posters. This was a dreadful scene. A manipulated child is rewarded for a tantrum and the judges fawn and simper shamelessly. This was very unfair for all the other competitors especially the soprano who deserved to win.
This show should be for over 16’s only then we wouldn’t have had to watch the spectacle of this spoilt brat pretending to cry and begging for another chance. She did not deserve a place in the final and she also cost Greg his chance.
After rearing seven children and seeing this kind of performance on occasions with my own I was completely sickened to see this 10 year old rewarded for being a little brat. Put me right off watching the program!
Aidan Davis to win britains got talent !
he has my vote tonight
cant believe he has never ad a dance lesson !
an that he taught himself to dance !
he is amazin just like george sampson so i hope he wins tonight!.
Imagine being any of the other acts in Friday’s show. After the crocodile tears and the judges reactions / comments, they must have felt like going straight home. I bet Aidan Davis felt the same although luckily for him not all the phone voting public were manipulated.
It was so, so wrong. And if she wins…!
And yes, how many children were watching last night and how many of those children either explicitly or implicitly realised the way to get what you want? I’m a teacher and know how quick children are to pick up on stuff like this.
Finally, her mother. We’ve all met her type before. Did you hear Hollie’s final “tearful” comment about not wanting it to end? Her words or her mother’s? A new 6 bedroom house or a new sport’s car first? Decisions, decisions!
Don’t worry, Andrew. I seriously doubt that she will win. When you look at who else is in the final, she doesn’t quite seem to meet the standard. Even before she “broke down”, she was kind of out of tune.
Whether the breakdown was real or not I couldn’t say, but it doesn’t seem fair that she was put through – surely, every other act had a one-up over her because they actually managed to finish their performances the first time round.
Give her a break people, she is a little girl who got nervous, couldn’t you see her shivering and shaking a little. Good for them for giving her another try.
She is one talented little girl. Of course she is spoilt, she adorable.
It makes me laugh how people can start to imagine conspiracy theories surrounding Hollie’s outburst last night but fail to realise the aim of Britains got talent and similar shows is a huge effort by television and other media into shaping public opinion into a certain view point.
I just think that the whole thing was completely horrific. It was awful seeing Hollie break down like that, in my opinion it was not faked. The thing is, yes she threw a tantrum, but at the end of the day she is only ten years old and she was devastated that she knew she had blown her chance, probably made worse by the pressure on her to succeed by friends and family. The real responsibility here lies on the parents, who shouldn’t have pushed her and put her through it. Also the judges should not have allowed her to perform again, not to ‘teach her a lesson’ but to spare her another bad experience, and they shouldn’t have put her through to the final, it was irresponsible. It’s what we saw earlier on with Natalie Okri, a young child’s dreams crushed so harshly and publicly on live television. What is the rush that they should do this at such a young age? Yes they want it, of course they do, they are young and impatient and want everything right now, but it is their parents responsibility to put their foot down and ensure they have a stable upbrining and a full education before the possibilty of entering show business where they will have several decades of ups and downs ahead of them, which they will be more equipped to deal with!
Hollie is a child, but she is also not a baby. Why the loud crying and stamping? I was appalled at her tantrum on stage.
I am not posting here on a talent agenda as I do not watch the show….the internet videos on occasion. What I would like to say is that you people who are attacking a
10 year old child as being a mastermind is totally bizarre. She , like other children,
should NOT be competing at such high levels against mature adults. It is totally ridiculous. If they want children to compete then have them compete against other
children. This arena “Britains Got Talent” is just too big for a child. Hollie is definitely a talented little girl. Her Mum should have waited until she is older to compete against adults. Shame on Mum. Just remember when you were 10 years old. This
process is just overwhelming for such a young child. They should raise the age to
16 or 17 like American Idol.
hi hollie my name is anastassia i like your singing and i love u
i really want you to come to boston with aidan davis
As a parent of an almost 10 year old daughter who has been taking dance lessons since she was 2, and I am also a dance teacher: I was thoroughly disgusted at Hollie’s tantrum on BGT. I was outraged that she was allowed into the final, yet the other kids on BGT behaved in a mature and professional manner throughout the show and not all of them made it through. Callum Francis was eliminated in the Semi Final, yet he delivered a far more polished & confident performance than Hollie – Friday night’s eposode was just a typical case of another pushy stage mother manipulating her bratty kid to ploy for the sympathy vote!! Sorry, but there are children already out there working in the West End in shows such as Lion King / Mary Poppins / Billy Elliot etc and they have to maintain a professional manner at all times on and offstage- if kids like Hollie can’t handle the pressure of a big competition like BGT they shouldn’t be there to begin with!! I think it would be unfair to raise the age limit to 16+ as there are many more great young performers out there who should be given a fair chance next year – why should a spoilt brat like Hollie take that opportunity away? Not every 10 year old cries & screams to get their own way!!
Come on BGT judges – watch out for those ’stage brats’ and their pushy mothers!! There are many genuinely talented kids who have supportive but not pushy parents – give them a chance!!
Aidan Davis was fantastic, i adore himm! he is ace, my age 2! such a sweet innocent face and a lovley smile, plus SO talented! Hollie isn’t a mastermind but her mother seemed to set it up, i dislike her a lot but just my opinion.
Neither Hollie Steel or her mother said ‘thank you’ when Simon offered Hollie another chance.
Any other mother would have taken Hollie off the stage to calm her down. Hollie’s mother seemed more interested in Hollie getting back on-stage as soon as possible to sing again.
Hollie Steel is emotionally immature for someone nearing secondary-school age and needs a few years to grow up.
A shame as I really liked Hollie before last Friday. But I’m completely put off her now. Notice how dry her face is after ‘crying’ when told there wasn’t time for her to sing again.
OMG Hollie steel is such a cry baby she just wants atention and the juges no matter wat anyone else done they wouldd of gave their vote 2 hollie!!
PS: Aidan Davis is soooo buff and we r da same age, Cool!!
gosh hollie is such a pain!!!
hollie should ov being given a nouther chance i feel sorry 4 her
i think hollie steel is the cutist
No1 shouldcall Hollie Steel a brat – Jon – coz i believe dat nun of u can hav a problem and then come back onstage in front of thousands of pples. If u do go on britains got talent n u hav a problem then simon gives u a second chance then i will like 2 c u back onstage coz u will just b a flippin donkey faced baboon coz u aint gonna go bck on and ur callin holly stupid coz she was a bit too nervous – now any1 who sed this to Hollie then i want u 2 go on britains got talent n c wat u can do – if u do go on promise me 1 fing, on the auditions say this “Im proving to cheaky dat i do hav talent” if not den i no dat ur scared
reply here to me if u fink dat im rong
i love aidan so much hes the best dancer ive ever seen i love him xx
For those of you who believe that Hollie’s tears were manufactured as part of a plot,
I think you are wrong. However, why blame her for “anything”. If the judges had not given her a second chance we would not be here discussing this. It is NOT her fault.
The judges are the ones with whom you people should be bothered by. Leave this child alone. Maybe this was not the right arena for her? But how childish for people
to blame her. She broke down from the pressure. Did you not hear that Susan Boyle
also broke down, off stage, and was hospitalized. I don’t think you understand what
these people go through. Please be more understanding.
I don’t agree with the majority of the people that have expressed their views here.
In my opinion Hollie deserved fully that second chance. She is one of the best 10 year old singer the world has ever seen and it would have been a horrible mistake to not let her perform again although she made a mistake the first time.
She is not spoiled, she is a perfectionist like all talents of her caliber and she felt horrible missing a line like that in the middle of the most important performance of her young life.
All her mother did, and all Simon and the production team did, was to make the right decision and support Hollie in her request to have another go.
I would have expected that reaction from a good and supportive mother, to take Hollie off the stage and home (as some people have suggested) would have broken Hollie’s heart and a horrible decision.
And hats of to Simon for his support and decision, he knew exactly that he was doing the only right thing in that situation. No wonder he is called the King of Common Sense.
Hollie Steel is a beautiful girl inside out who has been given an extraordinary talent that she MUST share with as many people as possible for as long as she lives. That is her quest. She will surely make the world a better place for a lot of us, warming our hearts with her beautiful, angelic voice.
I wish Hollie and her parents all the best in the future and pray that they will continue to make the right decisions now that their lives has changed so much. If I could give them any advice at all it would be to seek guidance from people like Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden.
They know exactly about all the site effects and costs of world fame and how to avoid being affected by all the negative and envious people that always try to crawl into the light whenever the real talents are on the stage.
Never let these bugs scare you Hollie, keep on singing and dancing for all the people in the world that appreciate and embrace your talent and beauty.

i toataly agree with u sarah

I THINK THEY BOTH SHOULD GET NERVOUS CUM OPN THEY R KIDDS XXXXX
I d think it was fake as there was no tears on her face. There was definitely no need for the screaming and stamping.
There shouldn’t be an age limit though because all of the other kids on the show have kept calm (Aidan Davis, Shaheen and Callum Francis, to name a few)
I think Hollie was forced into this by her pushy mother. Remember Connie from series one? She was a little 6 year old who seemed to just love singing.
