Amanda Holden To Judge Britain’s Got Talent
Amanda Holden will be judging on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent along with ex-Mirror editor Piers Morgan and the man himself, Simon Cowell.
Amanda, 35, said: “I can’t wait to see what the British public delivers.”
Why exactly is she on the panel? What is her talent?

February 22nd, 2007 at 8:28 am
Just a warning for other entertainers auditioning for Britains got talent.
I appeared on the show and simon could be quite freindly but peirs morgan and Amanda Holden could be quite nasty (Not to me) but to a lot of other performers.
You only get seconds to prove if your any good at the talent you have. For a comic its a nightmare because none of them understand that you cant prove how good you are in 30 seconds.
You have about as much chance as peirs morgan getting a his job back at the Daily Mirror.
Why is Amanda on the show , what experience has she got in the entertainment world ? They need proper entertainers on the panel, ones who have had to learn there art and struggle to get where they are today and then perhaps they will appreciate what these acts are going through. At leats BBC Opportunity knocks gave you 3 mins to prove if you was any good or not.
There was a lot of performers who were excellent who came off stage in tears and they were of all ages.
So be warned its not for the faint hearted (im still having nightmares)
They can destroy dreams aswell as carears so please think and get advice before you go on this show.
All the best
Brian.

Is it that bad?
February 22nd, 2007 at 2:26 pm
Also remember that they hadnt seen more than half of the contestants audition yet, when the Birmingham recalls were staged. Therefore you would have to be exremely lucky to progress, given the amount of talent still to audition round the country.
This show is not really a route to further anyone’s career. So when you get your recall, just enjoy it for what it is - another day to perform!
We heard/saw some fantastic singers and performers yesterday in London. God knows how they’ll decide!

Hello Brian,
You ask what Entertainment Experience Amanda Holden has?
Plenty musical theatre, live drama, comedy drama, television work. In fact Amanda is an extremely good all round entertainer and she has had all her life dedicated to it so far.
I gather your audition was a negative experience.
What is a real pity is that people do not prepare themselves well in advance in addition a little knowledge and respect goes a long way.
The first 30 seconds is your make or break time in all auditions, its all you have on a demo disc even if your 2 songs equate to 7 minutes. If the A and R man isn’t impressed within the first 30 seconds your disc could become a coffee coaster.
You need to know exactly what you are going to do and you need to walk in confidently. There is no time for time wasting. Time wasting is money.

Couldn’t have said it better Maureen! Actually I would have said it’s the first ten seconds (first bar) for singers. If you watch Bianca Ryan on the US show - you’ll see what I mean….
February 26th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Hello Star1,
How very astute. With the exception of an introduction if a backing disc is allowed and in certain circumstances they are ‘for those who are very young and possibly very nervous without’. I will have to agree with you on the first ten seconds for a singer, even though I have not watched Bianca Ryan.
In fact every time I have sat in on auditions, I have encouraged all to do two or three breathing exercises. Observed the way in which the individual walks in, the overall posture and facial expression when they open there mouths to sing. Sometimes, I have stopped an audition when the individal has been uncertain of there opening notes.
Being a kind and thoughtful individual at this point, I have often got out of my chair walked towards the individual auditioning taken hold of a hand to reassure them we are not monsters, asked them to sigh allowing cool air down to pass down the throat. Encouraged them to loosen the neck and shoulders take a sipp or two of water, sing one note to a vowel just to place the voice and ask them to start again.
Sometimes showing you care is enough to get the auditonee to give themselves a better start.
Sometimes nerves can get the better of people and even someone who is good can have this problem within the all important 30 seconds.

Hello Maureen
I dident say my audition was a negative experience, i was just saying that acts need to be aware how long you have to impress and to be aware of how the judges can put you down.
I didnt say personaly amanda had no talent i was quoting what it said at the top of this page but i do beleive they need people who know what there talking about.I saw a little girl on the show and amanda said she was excellent but she would not put her through to the next round as she came from stage school and peirs and simon couldent understand why.So what message does it send out to acts who are at stage school?
Lets face it the show is to show off talent and acts that havent got talent as this makes good tv.(Ratings)
My advice to any act doing auditions, go prepared , expect the unexspected but be prepared for knock backs make sure you present yourself well and rehearse and rehearse and if you dont get picked theres always someone else that will like you so keep trying, and most of all dont take it personally theres more to life.
All the best

Hello Brian,
I realise you were reading from the top and if I seem a bit tetchy, its because I feel Amanda Holden should be a good judge for the job.On the basis of her background experience. Sadly women aren’t the decision makers in this industry and turning down an excellent youngster from a stage school could well have been done according to the criticsim that’s levied at auditonees who do go to one. Sometimes people feel that they are given preferential treatment. Leona Lewis the recent winner of the X factor has endured this.
This subject is a really sore one for me and others like me. There are thousands of leavers from Drama, dance and theatre courses every year throughout Britain and some schools are not obliged to give any positive careers guidance, so they are left to the battle for survival in the cruel world outside. Some schools are very good the Silvia Young School is one of many who have a package geared for leavers and as such the cream of their crop will get jobs professionally within 6 to 9 months of leaving. The majority of musicians and singers in Britain today either survive in the regions with the support of a day job which may or may not be related to what they do musically. Furtherore, they have a job which is responsible for bread and butter on the table - and the music, the drama, the dancing etc has become a hobby. It goes without saying much more but many amateurs are professionals who simply can’t get a foot in the door.
Of household names or making it less than 1% of those who train become known. It is the hardest business of all to get into and to survive in even if unknown regionally.
Televised talent shows are about a mixture of things good viewing and statistics top the list. Lets face it though if every contestant was from a drama, dance or theatre school the vast majority of viewers would switch off. The’d switch off because they’d want to see some of there own social class making progress in the world. In other words they need a reason to watch TV, it should not be assumed that they are a gullible couch potatoes who watch anything and everything.
ITV is noted for trying to ensure that a certain standard is maintained but when looking at it from there persepective, the majority of viewers of ITV programmes of Saturday night are working class and if they have families they watch in groups and Vote in multiple groups.
If BBC two started a talent show off a major difference in viewers would be immediately noted.
Several years ago I sent in a few programme profiles/ideas for format TV for my region and although the company were wonderful, they told mw out right they did not make programmes for selective viewers. They only made programmes which would register with a significant viewers statistic as they also had an obligation to adertisers who needed an unwitting catchment for the marketing of products and services.
ITV is television for the masses.
Talent shows with ITV are reflective of what viewers would like to buy in the shops, yet somehow they don’t buy in the quantities the music industry would like. Could it be we have fickle Saturday night viewers?

Sadly back home in Newcastle.

Maureen thanks for filling us in! I only really knew Amanda from a few TV roles and also her marriage scandal. I had no idea that she had so much experience.

Hello Maureen,Just a quick note my son Jack auditioned yesterday 28th od Feb at Manchester and it could not of gone better on his part he done everything he practised perfectly for the audition. He sung aint that a kick in the head by Dean Martin and done his mammy very very proud cosidering he has had no training at all i think hes amazing.
He did get on camera as one of the workers i belive from the production team came and got him to stand at the from and he also sung in the middle of the floor.
In the audition room the production team were great friendly and made his relaxed although i must say i think i was the one with the nerves and not jack i could not look at there faced during his audition for willing him to too well, After the audition i have explained to him that on waiting to here for the 2nd auditions if he by chance does not get contacted all he has to think about is that he done his best and thats all that matters over all it was a good day thanks for you help by the way we are Newcastle as well god bless Mrs Harrop

hi all my daughter has been to the audition for britains got talent and she had a wonderfull morning but i must admit that just say she was selected for rd 2 i would be so scared if they upset or degraded her in any way as she is such a loverly loving young lady with a great passion and love for musical theatre she herself would never upset anyone she does attend a drama group on satudays would this reflect on her oh i am just mumbling but she is my life and i could not stand it if she was hurt for something she truly loves.it would break my heart if i seen any child belittled on tv or anywere just a concered parentx

March 3rd, 2007 at 3:21 pm
Hello Mrs Meakin i truly no and belive were you are comming from because my emotions are exactly the same as yours because my son Jack has song from such a young age and really has a love for music although i have never taken him to any stage schools ect he still has a love for music and entertaining. However like yourself i really dont want to see him get hurt either especially bacuse 9 is such a young age to understand rejection so prior to this competition i have made sure that he realises that he is in it for fun and whatever the outcome his we think hes a star.Jack is my only child and i would love him to do well he is our life and his dads world but hopfully if they do suceed to the next round the judges will hopfully no how to be tactful to children of such a young age and if not well thats when we there for them to give them our support hoope this helps hun love josey

Hi to everyone who has taken part in Britains Got Talent. Has the days are getting closer to reciving a call back i can imagine many of you like myself are worried and anxious willing the phone call to confirm the next round.
Its my son whom had taken part in the audition and like many of you i belive he done realy well i can especially say from my point of view in anyways.
It Has been a nerve racking time especially for those who auditioned like my son on the 28th of febuary at Manchester after auditioning like many of yous he was told that he would here within 4 to 6 weeks after his audition, only to find that the recalls are happening in Manchester Opera House on the 23rd 24th and 25th of March i belive may be a few days out here.
So as alot of people have said the calls to confirm the next round may not be to far off maybe a matter of days.
Wow doesnt ease the nerves because then we thinking well initially i was told 4 to 6 weeks but then the Opera House is booked for the dates realesed. Does this mean that some people may have been told something else?
Honestly i dont belive so, i belive that on the day thay do have an idea has to whom is going to through to the next round but dont say anything.
Anyways this is from my heart to you all GOOD LUCK in reciving a call and always remember if that call does not arrive and you have been unsucessful keep going towards your dreams and never give up as 1 door closes another 1 opens
God bless
Mrs Harrop

I said to my mum, oh the call backs are in 2 weeks, and she’s like no 4 - 6 weeks..
But like the other women said (sorry cant member ya name) They have booked the opera house…
Im wondering, if you have made it, and they ring, but what if they cant get through..
will they ring again??

Hi,
My daughter had audition in Cardiff on 5th March and has had a call back for this Saturday. She heard back on Sunday. Can anyone give me more advice on what to expect from the judges. How does the judging work etc? J x
March 13th, 2007 at 10:36 pm

March 14th, 2007 at 10:57 am
Hi Josey,
Yeah thats right. She was called Sunday afternoon and has to sing in front of an audience of 2000 plus the 3 judges. Im sure that she will be fine. Looking at the other posts I think they have to make an impact within the first 30 secs. She is only 12 years old but really strange that she is not scared. Slightly nervous. It has been her dream for a very long time to sing in front of Simon Cowell and even if this goes no further then she has fullfilled one of her dreams. I am sorry that your boy didnt hear. Kind Regards J x
March 14th, 2007 at 11:53 am
they are only really interested in singers….the winner will get a recording deal……..how can they make money out of other acts?
March 14th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Is there anyone out there who has already performed in front of the judges? Can you tell me what to expect on Saturday? Regards Jayne x
March 14th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
Go to the Youtube site and look for Britains got talent - there’s a clip from the Birmingham auditions there…
March 14th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
The have said that the prize is £100,000 and also the chance to appear on “The Royal Variety Performance”, so no recording contract mentioned. This is different to X factor. They want variety. My daughter just sings but I know they were looking for everything
March 14th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

Hi,
I see that the 6th April has been announced as the date for London call backs (no venue given yet) but so far this is the only date and only one time is given(11.15am). Does anyone know if there will be other dates and times for London? If not, can that mean that less people will be called back from the London auditions? There’s three dates for the Manchester callbacks, with two shows per day, presumably with 10/15 acts per show, if it’s the same as Birmingham. Any one got any views, or additional info.
Cheers,
Lyn

Hiya to all!.
I have received an email telling me I had been selected for the audience on 24th March. Reading further too many get picked and not everyone gets admitted, is this right?. We will have to travel for at least 1 hr 30 mins so can anyone advise me on timing to ensure getting in?, dont want to be there for many many hours extra!! Does anyone know if they have to confirm their tickets, reading my email it appears not but any advice appreciated!!
Thanks

My daughter was at the call backs yesterday and she is through to the 3rd round which is great news. It was a great day but a lot of hanging around as they were running late but at least we were inside. Thats all I can say to anyone going for a recall, you really have to be quite confident. I know that there were acts who were confident before going on stage but just lost it when in front of the judges. It was an awesome experience for my daughter. She is only 12 and did really well. Good luck to anyone else. xxxxxx

Hi Georgie,
They willusually do it in the order that they have slots to fill. The slots will have a mixture of different acts, so that you don’t get all the singers all in one go or all the comedians in one go either. It’s better for variety that way
March 28th, 2007 at 6:50 pm

March 28th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Hi I’m new to this website, as I was referred to it by Star1 and Pavvi (thanks by the way).
I hope you don’t think I’m being rude by asking, but after reading back all the above comments, I was just wondering does Maureen have some inside knowledge on when people will hear back for 2nd round auditions etc.?
I auditioned on the 19th February in London as a Songwriter (not a singer although I can sing, as I didn’t want them to judge me on my looks or voice). At the audition the lady let me sing two of my songs (which I took as a good sign). The lady put a sticker on my piece of paper after I started singing (don’t know if this is a good or bad thing).
I thought the audition went well and really enjoyed my morning in Islington. I doubt I will get through though as being a songwriter isn’t really a typical category, and I’m sure they will pick either singers or entertainment type acts instead.
I just look at it as good experience and an enjoyable day, and if I get through then it would be an added bonus.

Hi Katie, I went on the 19th Feb (see my above post for more details).
I was lucky as my audition was early in the morning and I was in the first group to be called to the audition room area, so I didn’t have to hang around for hours.
Good luck by the way. Let us know when you get your call back.
March 28th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
Georgie - you will have a mic if you get through to the recalls…so don’t panic! You won’t haave to sign without!
March 29th, 2007 at 7:58 am
they did hip hop, they had a call from the show 5 days after the audidtion asking what the song was and who it was sung by. but they haven,t heard anything else yet. but a couplewe know have heard that they didn,t make it.
our girls were interviewed twice, then asked by the floor people in the holding room to dance with their music so they could record them, then asked everyone to be quiet so they could do it again with no music. thier audition was on the 24th feb.
anyone had news from that date?
penny xx
March 29th, 2007 at 11:52 am

March 29th, 2007 at 4:07 pm
we were the 20th aswell but as far as we no they have only started calling today
xx
March 29th, 2007 at 5:36 pm
Congratulations Katie. Good luck for the next round. Is your call back on 6th, 7th or 8th? If it’s on the 6th April, I have audience tickets so might see your act.
Out of interest did they call you in morning or afternoon?
The reason why they probably asked people a few weeks ago about music is that they have to get permission to use the songs due to royalites paid to the artists on the tracks.
March 29th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
Hey Danni
Dont know yet was just told that itwill be next friday or sat they will let us know and if we got called would need to be available for the sunday !!!!!

March 29th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
this is katies daughter what sort of acts have u done ? xx
March 29th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
PAVVI? (1 MORE QUESTION)
CAN U SING A’CAPELLA WITHOUT MUSIC AND JUST YOUR VOICE WITH THE MIC, OR DO U HAVE 2 HAVE THE MUSIC WITH U??
March 29th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
They will usually allow you to use a backing track if you want to but it’s fine to do it a capella. Don’t worry about there being too much power don’t move the mic away or walk further away if using a stand. The sound engineers will make adjustments if they need to
March 30th, 2007 at 8:54 am
do they let you know in a letter? as my granddaughter moved since they auditioned and the phone network wouldn,t let her take the old number, she did give her mobile when they called up. so fingers crossed they,ll use that one.
good luck everyone who got through.
just enjoy your day.
penny xx
March 30th, 2007 at 9:15 am

Hi Pavvi,
We were at the 2nd auditions with you in Cardiff and we have just had the details for the 3rd round in London. What time and date are you and the A470s having to go back? They have told us to wear the same things again and have just said the be prepared for anything! Have you any idea whats going on? Regards Jayne x

March 30th, 2007 at 11:31 am

March 30th, 2007 at 11:37 am
Its wonderful Katie for you and your daughter to have made it. Im sure I sidnt. Not much place for a bloke doin magic card tricks. Have a great experience and be proud. Ill be cheering you on!!!!!!!!!!!
March 30th, 2007 at 11:40 am
Hi Guys,
Just a bit confused about the third round!!! I’m reasonably sure that the ‘third’ round in America’s got talent’ was the live TV shows. One show for the called back acts from each area. Followed by the semi finals and final, but the live TV shows are not due until June are they??? So maybe this recall is for additional interview / footage, rather than an actual 3rd round.
Any thoughts????
Lyn
March 30th, 2007 at 11:47 am
Audition is at Shaftesbury theater, my daughter and I are dancing together xx

March 30th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
Hi,
Am not sure what the 3rd round will entail. They were really vague on the phone but did say that my daughter needed to wear the same clothes but just said be fully prepared for “anything”! Dont know what that means. I know where it will be but cant really say but they wouldnt give me the venue. Good luck to everyone going for the 2nd round and hope to see you Sunday for those of you that get through to the next round. Jayne x
March 30th, 2007 at 12:17 pm

March 30th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Oh. Didnt know how that worked. Well you must be right chuffed your little one has followed your lead. Jill…does your son have any CD’s one can purchase at shoppe?
March 30th, 2007 at 3:07 pm
At the moment they mainly sell their cd’s at their gigs. Also t’shirts. Will have new cd soon. They write their own songs and lyrics. Only do a couple of covers. If you go to http://www.myspace.com/thethrowoffs you will see and hear them.
March 30th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Hello hi,
good to hear from you again….yes it’s all a mystery…originally they had given me a 2pm slot but changed it to 10.30…..which is hopeless because the first train in from Port Talbot leaves at 0420 and doesn’t get in until 10.15…they have told me that they are going to come back to me on it, and suggested possible alternative travel arrangement.
They aren’t allowing guests to come, however, so I can hardly expect my wife to drive me in (I don’t drive)and sit around London for ever….
They won’t answer any questions just saying that it is at an undisclosed location in London, when I spoke to them about wearing the same things, and what simon had said, they said not to worry about it….the suspense is killing me!
March 30th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Hi Pavvi,
I live in Cardiff and am driving up so if I can be of any help with transport just let me know. Regards Jayne x
March 30th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
P.s.
We are 10.30am too on the Sunday!
March 30th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
I think Lyn said about doing additional interviews and stuff is probably right and that is why they want you to wear the same clothes Pavvi. Or they will make it look on TV as though you had the 3rd round the same day as the other 2nd round auditions only this time in a different room (i.e. not with audience). That way they make make the transition between 2nd and 3rd round smoothly, like a kind of boot camp thing. This is only me guessing though. It will be interesting to hear all your stories after the 8th April.
In my orginally audition letter for 19th Feb, it did say that if people got through to the 2nd round they would have to be free on the 6th, 7th and 8th April, which is why I assumed there would be 3 dates of London 2nd round callbacks. But now it is clear the 8th April was for people who have got through to 3rd round.
I’ve still not heard anything yet. So I expect a ’sorry but you’ve not made it’ letter through the door in the near future.
March 30th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Thanks Hi, that’s a real help from you and much appreciated…
March 31st, 2007 at 11:44 am
Hi Guys,
For those of you still wondering about the 3rd recall… not sure if this will help, but I have a print out (found it online when the BGT auditions were first announced) detailing each stage of the America’s Got Talent show. It lists the acts that made it to the second round in each city. These acts then performed in front of the judges (same as our second round I expect) It then says… and I quote…
“At this point 58 of the 61 acts (29 with televised auditions and 29 without) that made it to the semifinals were divided into four groups. The 14/15 acts in each group had to perform a second audition in front of only the judges. Brandy, Hassleshof and Morgan then picked ten of these performers to continue on to the telecast. The contestants chosen to perform on stage are announced one at a time. Those acts that are not chosen do not find out until the last act is called, ending their chances to move on to the semifinals, unless a judge selects a non-performer for the Wild Card show.”
The 58 down to 61 was because three acts didn’t continue on for contractual reasons.
There were four semi final shows over four weeks followed by a wild card week, then the final. There were nine acts in the final and the public vote for the winner.
The UK show may not follow America exactly but I hope it helps a bit. (I read on one site that the UK live shows will be on daily for a week. Maybe so it won’t clash with the next X factor?)
Hope this is helpful, but apologies if it causes more nerves!!!!!
Lyn
March 31st, 2007 at 11:54 am
Sorry !!!! Mis- quote… There were ten acts in the Amercian final.
Not sure if it will happen here, but the acts that came in 2nd and 3rd also won a prize ( A 2007 Dodge Caliber RT) but then the American winner won
1 million dollars, so don’t get too excited just yet….

any1 had any news about london callbacks. i stil havent heard anything and am getting so so anxious and worried. only afew more days until callbacks end!
April 2nd, 2007 at 11:09 pm
We haven’t heard anything - either good or bad. Still if I’m right it’s a 1:500 chance of getting through so would be shocked if we don’t get the ‘thanks but no thanks’ letter. Who knows when the callbacks are over?
DSE
April 3rd, 2007 at 3:16 pm
callbacks, i suppose end on the 5th of april as the second rounds are the 6-8th april. fingers crossed and good luck !
