Austin Blackburn Plays The Saw On Britain’s Got Talent

On tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent show, Austin Blackburn tries to win a place in the live shows by playing the musical saw.

“I’m hoping to bring a new sound to the world of music,” Austin explains before going on stage. “People will be amazed - hopefully. I would like to be a professional saw player, a sawist? Whatever you call people that play the saw.”

Blackburn informs the judges that he will be playing ‘You Raise Me Up’, explaining: “I would like to promote the saw as a proper musical instrument.”

Once he is finished, Amanda, Piers and the audience seem impressed - but Simon just isn’t convinced.

Amanda says: “I am stunned, I thought it was absolutely beautiful.”

Piers adds: “The thing about you Austin is that when you first came on stage I thought you were dull, but then you turn out to be musical genius - absolutely amazing.”

But Simon complains: “I could not disagree with the two of you more. What we have is a saw that sounds like a cat being stamped on.”

This guy Austin Blackburn is rediculous - the sound of the saw is NOT a new sound, it’s centuries old! Hasn’t he heard of all the different musical saw competitions and festivals around the world? Here is an example: http://www.sawlady.com/musicalsawfestival.htm
He sais: “I would like to promote the saw as a proper musical instrument.”
Hasn’t he heard of the numerous classical/contemporary composers who wrote for the saw, not to mention the many movie sound tracks using it and the many rock groups using the musical saw as a proper musical instrument?
Obviously he is just a gimmick seeker, not a true artist. Do a Google search - you’ll find hundreds of sawists.

Austin is a brilliant, talented musician. Any idea how I can contact him? I am holding a Charity event in a few months time and would be honoured if he would play a few songs for us. Please help!

  4. Well done Austin. There is only a few of us saw players around in the UK so its nice here that you were successful. Lets hope that we can increase its popularity. If you ever fancy a saw duel… I mean duet… let me know. All the best. The Yorkshire Musical Saw Player
