Britain’s Got Talent 2010: Georgia Overton was inspired by her pal Joe McElderry
Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Georgia Overton has revealed that she was inspired to audition for the ITV show, after watching her pal Joe McElderry sing his way to success on last year’s X Factor.
Georgia, 17, wowed Simon Cowell on Saturday night’s show with her rendition of Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’ and has admitted that she first met Joe McElderry at a singing competition in 2008.
She told The Sun:
“My mum entered me for Britain’s Got Talent without telling me and at first I really didn’t want to do it.
“I didn’t want to launch a singing career that way, by going on a reality show.
“Usually when you watch these programmes people take advantage of it as they just want to be famous.
“But when I watched Joe it showed me that not all people on reality TV shows are like that as he was just being how he usually is.
“It gave me the inspiration for Britain’s Got Talent.”
On Simon’s reaction to her audition and his cheeky wink Georgia added:
“He seemed impressed and I saw him clicking his fingers along to my song.
“I don’t mind him winking as long as he’s enjoyed my performance.
“Beforehand I was nervous. If he hadn’t been positive I would have found him scary.”
