Britain’s Got Talent 2010: Maxxie Oliver disowned by parents

Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Maxxie Oliver has been disowned by both his parents because of his sexuality.

The Lady Gaga impersonator, who will appear on tonight‘s BGT semi final, admitted that after not speaking to him for more than seven years his dad did get in touch when he saw him on TV, but only to disown him forever.

He told The Sun:

“I haven’t been in touch with my dad for seven years and I got an email about three weeks ago.

“He said, ‘I’ve just seen your video. I’ve got to say I’m ashamed. Just to let you know, you’ve been disowned.

“‘I don’t want you to be my son any more. Being gay is your personal life, but being a transvestite is being sick.’”

“He thinks it’s not normal that I’m gay and a transvestite. He said, ‘Get in touch with me and I’ll take you to see a specialist who will be able to help you.’

“It’s hard when you don’t hear from your parents and your dad actually says to you, ‘I don’t want you to be my son or have anything to do with me.’

“But I’m not used to having him in my life – it’s been seven years.

“I didn’t even get back to him because I really don’t care what he thinks now.”

Maxxie also revealed that a year after his father walked out of his life, his mother moved to France and cut off contact with him when he wouldn’t join her. Maxxie revealed:

“She said if I didn’t come with her she’d never talk to me again or support me financially.

“I was just 15 and started working as a dancer in a gay club at nights to get money, as well as going to school in the daytime.” Maxxie said a pal bumped into his mum recently and told him she has just had a baby.

He added: “Mum said she knew I was on the show. She’ll only get in touch if she knows money is involved.

“I’d love to meet my little sister but if mum doesn’t want me to, I can’t.Every time I try to speak to her she says, ‘No, you’re not with me’, or doesn’t reply.

“I don’t want people to feel sorry for me. I don’t have my parents but I’m a stronger person because of it.

“My friends are my family – I’d rather have them supporting me.”
