Britain’s Got Talent 2012: Charlotte Jaconelli and Jonathan Antoine provide the Susan Boyle moment – but Simon Cowell tries to split them up (VIDEO)
Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli were the final act on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent, so we knew straight away that they would rbing something special to the stage.
The pair, aged 16 and 17 respectively, hailed from Essex, and described themselves as an opera and pop singing duo
Charlotte explained how they ended up singing together, saying:
“It was our singing teachers actually, she thought it would be good to try us out together and we both sounded quite good when we sang what we did.”
Jonathan went on to admit that his size has affected his confidence over the years and revealed that he has been bullied and picked on. He said:
“I’ve always had a problem with my size since I can remember and when I was in primary school it was back then really that I had the mick taken out of me and it kind of damaged my confidence quite a bit. When people would say something to me, it would just take a little piece out of me in a sense.”
However the pair have been very supportive of one another and he added:
“Charlotte’s been a really big help for me, in terms of confidence and making me a better performer and I really don’t think I would be going up on stage today if I didn’t have Charlotte by my side.”
Charlotte added:
“I’m quite protective of Jonathan if I was there and someone stood there and said something to him, I couldn’t sit there with my mouth shut. Before you make a judgement on someone I think you really need to know them, it’s cliché, it’s not judging a book by it’s cover, you’ve got to read what’s inside.”
The pair went on to perform together and when Jonathan opened the song, the whole audience was stunned.
Simon Cowell’s jaw dropped and he was obviously stunned by his vocal skill, especially since he had been so disparaging when the pair first walked on and told Carmen Electra ‘just when you think things can’t get any worse!’
Amanda was also impressed and at one point she welled up and was almost crying. Afterwards, the panel commented:
Simon: Wow, wow, wow. Oh my god. Erm, Alesha?
Alesha: It’s not very often that that happens, that you can move an audience like that – You sing beautifully together. It was world class.
David: A pop voice and an opera voice together, it was incredible.
Simon: Ok this is what I think, Charlotte I think you’re good but Jonathan you are unbelievable. I mean seriously you have an outstandingly good voice. How old are you?
Jonathan: 17
Simon: I mean that’s unbelievable, Jonathan you are a future star. I like the fact that this works as a duo but I worry Charlotte whether you’re gonna hold him back.
Jonathan: Well we’ve come on here as a duo and we’re gonna stay here as a duo.
The Judges vote and unsurprisingly three send the pair straight through, while Simon admits he has reservations about their pairing, but likes Jonathan enough to give them another chance.
He confessed that his head was saying one thing, but his heart another. But with or without Simon’s backing, the duo were through to the next stage.

he was amazing id say better than Paul Potts what a voice,a defo potential winner
Jonathan and Charlotte were ‘spectacular’ together and yet again gave Simon a ‘wake up call’. His attitude stinks and he has learned nothing from his previous experience with Susan Boyle, walking straight into the trap of ‘assumption’.
Well done to Jonathan for standing strong with Charlotte before such rudeness, and in front of such a vast audience. You spoke from your heart, you stood for yourself and for all those who have been bullied. Now you know you don’t need size to keep them away and you will go forward in strength.
Thankyou for the depth of your incredible VOICE, singing from your Soul. You ARE a ‘Star’ NOW. The future will take care of itself.
Blessings to you both.
He is a different voice to Paul Potts (Jonathon is a baritone) but a great voice nonetheles
Actually, I think he is a future dramatic tenor/Verdi baritone!!! Time will tell
Simon wasn’t surprised, he has seen all the acts before. Its totally staged, I am sure he encouraged Jonathan to look as slovenly as he could, made the comment and showed all those faces. Then surprise surprise, only it was no surprise to the judges its all staged for TV
OUTSTANDING!
