Britain’s Got Talent 2012: Interview with Ashleigh & Pudsey
Ashleigh & Pudsey wowed the Judges in the auditions with Simon saying that Pudsey is the ‘best dancing dog act he has ever seen’. Seventeen year old Ashleigh was given Pudsey when she was 11 and they have a remarkable bond. They have been performing in shows for years.
What made you audition for Britain’s Got Talent this year?
I decided to audition because I felt Pudsey and I were ready for the challenge. Pudsey is six now and he is in his prime which means he is competing at his peak. We have been competing in canine freestyle for three years and have reached advanced level, so I felt Britain’s Got Talent was the next step for us.
What’s the most exciting thing about your Britain’s Got Talent experience so far?
Receiving the standing ovation from the Judges! As soon as Pudsey and I finished our performance Simon stood up closely followed by Alesha and David. This meant a lot to me and Pudsey because it showed us that all our hard work and training had finally paid off. Also the comments we received couldn’t have been any better which made me feel so proud of Pudsey.
Are you nervous about performing in the live shows? Which Judge scares you the most?
I am very nervous about performing on the live shows. I feel that because everyone loved our audition routine so much, we have to make our second performance even better, which puts a lot of pressure on Pudsey and I. We don’t want to let anyone down, especially Simon!
What will you do with the £500,000 prize money if you win?
If we did win the £500,000 Pudsey would be getting a new bed and a posh collar, and he’d get the very best treats – steak probably! Also a big dream is to set up my own business training animals for film and TV. I feel Pudsey would be perfect for film work because as soon as someone reaches for their camera he is there waiting and posing!
What does performing at the Royal Variety Performance mean to you?
Performing in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety show would mean the world to Pudsey and I! Not only have I worked incredibly hard but Pudsey has as well! I know that if it wasn’t for Pudsey I wouldn’t be in the live semi-finals, he gives me the confidence to go out there and perform. I would love the Queen to see how strong the bond is between us. A dog has never won BGT, so I would love Pudsey to be the first.
Why should you win Britain’s Got Talent?
I think Pudsey and I should win Britain’s Got Talent as over the years there have been a variety of winners ……… singers, dancers, gymnasts. I feel it’s about time a dog act won! We have worked so hard for this and we have made sure we are enjoying it every step of the way!
How would you feel if you won? What do you want to do at the end of BGT?
I can’t describe how I would feel Pudsey and I won. Pudsey means everything to me and I know that all he ever wants to do is please me. It would mean all that more because I would have won alongside my best friend!
Tell us something about yourself that people may be surprised to know.
Pudsey is also an Agility Champion.
If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?
I would absolutely love to meet Johnny Depp!! I think he is just an amazing actor and all of his performances are flawless no matter what role he is playing! I know that Pudsey would love to act alongside him!!
Who has been your favourite act from previous series of Britain’s Got Talent?
My favourite act has to be Diversity. They made every one of their performances totally unique and just blew everyone away each time.
