Britain’s Got Talent 2012: ITV bosses didn’t want Simon Cowell to replace Amanda Holden with Carmen Electra

Simon Cowell went over the heads of ITV bosses, after they insisted that they didn’t want Carmen Electra on the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel, it has been reported.

The music mogul is well known for his love of beautiful women and obviously wasn’t thinking with his head, when he asked the former ‘Scary Movie’ actress to guest star on the ITV show, as regular judge Amanda Holden recuperated from her recent health scare.

Carmen proved to be an unpopular choice with the audience at London’s Hammersmith Apollo throughout the week and the Daily Mail has claimed that producers were furious, because they never wanted her on the show in the first place.

“Simon wasn’t thinking with his head with this decision,” a source told the newspaper. “It’s just like when he picked Kelly Brook for the panel.”

When we attended the auditions on Wednesday night, we didn’t particularly despise Carmen, because she didn’t say enough for us to be able to. However she did seem like a bit of a personality void and simply copied Cowell’s every move. When he buzzed, she buzzed and we think it’s fair to say that she was more interested in the X Factor boss, than in the auditionees.

ITV insiders say that they were against her appearance from the start and added:

“Carmen is virtually unknown here and her performance was shocking. Simon enjoys spending time with her and that seems to be the basis of his decision.

“In our view it was crazy but he’d made his mind up.”

This time last year, many BGT fans questioned Amanda Holden’s experience and right to sit on the judging panel, but her short replacement with Carmen could be the best thing that ever happened to the actress, as now Twitter is alight with fans calling for her return.

Despite the fact that she only gave birth to baby Hollie Rose two weeks ago and spent three days after that, seriously ill in intensive care, Amanda will be back on the panel this weekend, when the team head to Scotland and hold tryouts in Edinburgh.
