Britain’s Got Talent 2012: Simon Cowell blasts Jai McDowall as a poor winner (VIDEO)

Jai McDowall Britain's Got Talent

Simon Cowell has admitted that he was disappointed when Jai McDowall won Britain’s Got Talent last year.

The Scottish singer won the 2011 series of the ITV show, when he beat bookies favourite Ronan Parke after delivering his rendition of “To Where You Are” by Josh Groban.

It was clear at the time that Cowell was pushing for Ronan to win and on the night of the final, he even commented that Jai’s vocal was a bit ‘monotone.’

Speaking at the 2012 auditions fr Britain’s Got Talent, Simon confessed that even though he did sign Jai to SYCO records following last year’s series, he does not think he was good enough or impressive enough to have won.

‘It will sound awful my slagging him off,’ he conceded, adding:

‘But I was disappointed with Jai. You want to find someone who is a star all over the world and who has got a long career.

‘With respect to him, he wasn’t one of our best ones.’

Cowell added:

‘He would make a good living in theatre and is talented but he wasn’t what I was looking for.

‘You want a Diversity or a George Sampson or a Susan Boyle, a different kind of artist who is a genuine star.’

Jai was signed to SYCO last August and his debut album Believe was released on 9 December 2011. The lead single “With or Without You” was released the same day but after the album only charted at number 54 in the UK charts, Cowell has confessed that it is unlikely he will be signing him for another.

Simon also recently criticised last year’s X Factor finalists, admitting that he didn’t they they made the grade either!

Jai recently performed his one and only single on China’s Got Talent. You can watch the video below and tell us, do you think Simon is right?

Roanan parkes was the real BGT 2011 The question i would ask is why was Jessica Hobson put under so much pressure the judges including Amanada Holden should share the blame for poor performance in last year BGT semi final no wonder she was under pressure
