Britain’s Got Talent 2013: Ant & Dec admit taking drugs & blast US TV bosses!
Ant and Dec return to our TV screens tonight with their long running family show Saturday Night Takeaway but the pair have admitted that they have indulged in some less than clean cut behaviour over the years.
The TV duo shot to fame when they were teenagers on BBC children’s show Byker Grove and went on to have a short lived music career before finding a niche in presenting.
The told The Guardian today that all those years ago, they did sometimes dabble in drugs, however they steer well clear of illegal substances now.
When asked if they’d ever taken drugs Ant said:
“Yeah years ago.”
He added: “But we’re not really druggy people, that’s the thing.
“I think you either go into that crowd as a kid or you don’t – and we didn’t. We found the love of alcohol very early on and we stayed with it.
“There’s a real pub culture where we’re from in Newcastle, so we’re just more boozy people.”
Sounds very much like ourselves! Who doesn’t love a wee tipple every now and again?
The star also lashed out at American TV bosses, who he says have never given them a fair chance across the pond. The lads once fronted a doomed quiz show, that never took off in the US but he thinks they should be over some of the formats that they’ve helped make popular in the UK.
Mc Partlin ranted:
“We’ve launched a lot of shows like Pop Idol, and then it goes to the States, and everything stays the same, yet they change the hosts.
“I’m A Celebrity has been done twice now – but they changed the hosts. America’s Got Talent, we don’t host – somebody else hosts.
“That becomes very annoying, because I’ll tell you what: give us a fair crack at it.”
The lads are buzzing about the return of Takeaway tonight but it sounds like they could be a little nervous too. They didn’t get much sleep last night and tweeted just minutes ago saying:
“Didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, too excited! Heading to studio shortly, can’t wait to see u all later. Hv a great Saturday. D #SNT”
It’s shaping up to be a great show and will feature David Walliams, Robbie Williams and Louis Walsh talking to a banana. Sounds amazing!
