Britain’s Got Talent 2013: David Walliams to Jack and Cormac ‘It’s sort of One Direction meets Simon and Garfunkel!’

Cute little duo Jack and Cormac opened tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent show and their audition really was something else.

The Irish boys spent a while waiting backstage before they got to perform for the panel, as Simon Cowell kept everyone waiting by showing up three hours late for the tryouts.

However, it was worth the wait when the lads finally did take to the stage.

Before performing Jack explained:

“Me and Cormac are good friends.”

Cormac said:

“Jack is cheeky and annoying but he’s my best friend.”

“In the school there was a show and they needed acts. I could play the guitar and Jack could sing. [Afterwards] lots of people came up to us and told us we were brilliant, so we decided we would try out for Britain’s Got Talent.”

“If we won we’d be over the moon like.”

“I know that we’ll probably never get a chance like this again. So it’s now or never.”

The pair performed Little Talks’s song ‘Of Monsters and Men’ for the panel and the audience erupted into a round of applause by the mid way point. The judges loved it too and at the end the boys got a standing ovation from the Cardiff crowd.

It was quite the response and the lads lapped it all up.

Amanda Holden branded them ‘gorgeous and fabulous,’ David Walliams thought they were a mix between One Direction and Simon and Garfunkel, while Alesha Dixon told the youngsters she found them incredibly ‘loveable.’

The former Strictly Come Dancing judge also praised the hopefuls’ ‘beautiful’ vocals, while Simon Cowell was the only voice of dissension.

He thought that the Irish boys were ‘good but not great’ and admitted that he could hear their nerves in the performance. However the music mogul saw some potential and insisted that when ‘it worked….. it was really good.’

The star also approved of the song choice and was quick to give the singers a yes for the next round. His fellow judges also gave Jack and Cormac a pass and they were elated to be advancing towards the live shows.

That photo of the standing ovation is deliberately misleading, they didn’t get one from the judges.
