Jordan O’Keefe has admitted that he wasn’t intimidated by Simon Cowell when he auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year.
The 18 year old singer performed One Direction’s ‘Little Things’ for the music mogul and his fellow judges David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon during his tryout and though he had previously failed to get through on The X Factor, Jordan wasn’t worried about singing for Cowell.
He told The Londonderry Sentinel:
“I wasn’t [intimidated]. I was more determined to impress him. You only get this opportunity once and I had to make sure I made the most of it.”
Before singing, the Northern Irish singer revealed that his father was against him actively pursuing a music career at such a young age and told the presenters that his dad changed his course in a local college from music to business studies, so that he always had a backup plan.
However Jordan has insisted that his dad wasn’t trying to be unsupportive and just wants what’s best for him and he told his local newspaper:
“It was not that he did not want me to go ahead with a music career, it was more that he wanted me to do well in my life and in my career. He thought by going to music group it wasn’t going to give me a career that I could support myself or a future family, and that is why he pushed me down that route. It is really hard to get into the music industry, but now by doing this I think I have showed him that I can do it and it can happen.”
Jordan took part in a few rounds of auditions, before he got to meet the judges and when he finally did perform for the celebrity panel, they raved about his act.
Simon loved his vocals and his arrangement of the hit Ed Sheeran penned tune and O’Keefe has admitted that they all made him feel very ‘at ease’ despite his nerves. He said:
“The judges comments were really brilliant. Whenever I got on stage they chatted to me and made me feel at ease. It was brilliant.”
The handsome singer has been inundated with messages of support from him new fans and last night, they even managed to get him trending on Twitter. One posted:
“What a voice Jordan O’Keefe #bgt I think we might have just seen the winner. #ourweecountry”
