We previously reported that young singer Malakai Paul is set to shine on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent show and this morning, we have a few more details about the nine year old’s performance on the ITV show.
This evening the schoolboy from North London brings a huge element of emotion to the series, when he gets half way through his version of Beyonce’s ‘Listen’ and breaks down in tears.
Nerves got the better of the cute young performer and though his vocals were brilliant, and he revealed that he has been singing for three years prior to his tryout, he couldn’t make it to the end of his song without crying.
As Paul sobs on stage, he is joined by his worried mum and Alesha Dixon comes up to give him a cuddle and to ask if he would like to continue or to leave his performance to another time.
After he composes himself a little, Paul insists:
“I want to sing.”
“Just relax and enjoy it Malakai.”
Things go a little better this time and during the second rendition, it’s the judges that get teary as Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon well up while listening to Malakai’s crystal clear notes.
The audience are enthralled too and give the gorgeous boy a standing ovation.
Afterwards Alesha tells Paul that he is a little ‘star’, adding:
‘You have a natural raw talent, that’s what we are looking for. That was amazing sweetheart.”
David Walliams thought it was a ‘really special audition’ and Amanda Holden added that it was:
Simon Cowell loved Malakai’s performance too and more than that, he admired his determination too. The music mogul said:
“I’ve got to tell you, what I like about you; you’re brave, you know you, you got off to a bad start but you picked yourself up and people are going to like you a lot.”
Tune into Britain’s Got Talent tonight to see Malakai’s full audition and if the judges give him the yeses needed to advance to the next round.
