I blooming well knew it!!!
After the debut performance of Andrew Johnston on Britain’s Got Talent last Saturday, we were bombarded with stories of bullying and deprivation on the show and in the media the next day. Unreality TV were quick to ask if we were being played by the BGT team.
Today Andrew’s mum Morag spoke to the Daily Mail and admitted that the Britain’s Got Talent team had exaggerated Andrew’s plight somewhat. In fact she revealed that the family does NOT live on a council estate as reported and that anyone who had teased Andrew about his singing is now very supportive of his dream.
Morag explained: “I watched the programme myself on Saturday night, and I read the newspapers, and I thought: ‘Oh my goodness, what will the neighbours think? That isn’t the way it is at all.’
“It sounded like we had drug barons roaming the street, but it’s not that bad. I did tell them that when they were filming. I said it wasn’t a council estate, it was Housing Association, but I don’t think they knew the difference.
“They cut those bits out. People seem to have to put ‘council’ before the word ‘estate’. I don’t know why that is. I suppose it makes a better story, doesn’t it? And you kind of expect things to get hyped up a bit.”
Commenting on the bullies she added: “I don’t even know if they realise that they were the ones who caused him so much pain. You know what kids are like. They have no idea when they are being cruel.”
So who feels manipulated then? Anyone?

This is why we do not need sob stories.
Morag needs to listen to what her son said. He did say coucil estate nobody else put those words there. He also indicated he was bullied and that the people on the estate weren’t very supportive.
Irrespective of whether this was a truth or a lie, I still think he has a great choristers voice and I do gather he is in a church choir.
Young contestants should maybe consult there mums first as to what they can say about the area they live in and any other bits of storey they may want to share.

Manipulated? No. The kid has incredible voice, and was teased by those he wanted to support him, and he felt it was bullying. You may not, his mother may not, but the fact remains he did, and having worked with kids who have been bullied, to them, what seems nothing to you, is a terrible thing. So good on the kid, I wish him the best of luck in the contest.
He’s only a child still. If he felt as if he was unsupported and bullied, then nobody else can say anything. I wish him all the best despite the hardships he has been through, and it already seems as though he is on his way to success.
manipulated? NO. I don’t believe anything I hear and only half of what I see.
