Britain’s Got Talent: Emotional David Walliams carries the Olympic Torch – full video and pictures
Today was a big day for David Walliams, as the Sport Relief hero was next in line to carry the Olympic Flame through London.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge was clearly excited to be a part of the procession, taking to his Twitter early in the morning to write:
“What size batteries does this Olympic Torch take then…? I will be running with the Olympic Torch this morning at 8:25am on Upper Street in Islington. Well I say running, jogging… Well I say jogging, walking. Well I say walking, imperceptibility moving.”
Appearing at the Islington town hall with wife Lara Stone, a visibly nervous Walliams spoke about how honoured he felt.
He said:
“I’m very excited, it’s quite an honour – but I thought I was the only one! A lot of the other torchbearers have very interesting stories and amazing achievements. The torch is the star that’s what everyone has come to see.”
“It seems very simple thing to do but I really have to think about this so I don’t set anyone on fire – I’m giving the flame to Phil Packer and he has a big bushy beard and I don’t want to set him alight.”
After completing the honour, the actor tweeted: “Wow! I loved that sooooo much! Such a great response. And no-one made a lunge!”
David later revealed that he was close to tears during the run, while Lara said she was proud of him. The pair also Tweeted wonderful pictures of their day.

He definatley deserved to carry the olympic torch. He’s done a awful lot for charity and it’s about time David Walliams was recognised for it.
