Britain’s Got Talent: Flawless On X Factor?

Another BGT another fix scandal! This time dance troupe Flawless are embroiled in the controversy, as reports suggest that they were well known to Simon Cowell before they auditioned on Britain’s Got Talent this year.
The Sun has reported that the boys appeared regularly on last years series of X Factor as back up dancers.
A source said: “People think Flawless are just some boys from North London — they’re not, they’re proper professionals.”

Well ok if these lads are earning a regular income from the television companies and music industry promoters and maybe even being held to contract, I cannot see why they would want to do a reality talent show such as BGT. However, if these aren’t the circumstances and this group is struggling to survive than a televised talent show may be what’s needed to propel them via the 3 minutes or so of broadcast time to performance management companies.
If the first scenario is true than they should be disqualified as it would not be fair to other competitors. The X factor has rules about people holding contracts with management and promotions etc and it simply isn’t allowed.
A talent show is meant to be for those who are not known within the industry nationally as opposed to working regional professionals struggling.

i doubt very much that any of them will be on personal contracts with the tv companies. they will be a part of a certain agency that the tv companies use and thats about it.
the show is open to both amatuer and professionals so theres no need for disqualification.
although it may seem unfair to the ordinary unknowing people that ‘insiders’ are being allowed to compete, it is not the case at all. they are not really insiders they are just already known.

Hello Yummymummy,
That means they have contracts with the agencies the tv companies are using. That means they are working professionals. As such is the case it is unfair to other competitors UNLESS the amount of work coming in is insufficient to support them financially thEn that would be the only justification for entering. 100k split x number of ways is about 10k each. A little nest egg for a rainy day or money to finance them for another year.
Irrespective of the reasoning other competitors may be at a disadvantage.
I think what you mean by already known is that they are known in the Capital. the capital city is their home region. I had not heard of them before BGT.

the show is open to amatuers and professionals (as already stated) regardless of income or how much work they already get. they could be sons and daughters of millionaires wanting to make their own way through life for all we know. how does it justify their eligibilty to enter?
i think that bringing their finances into it is a completely irrelevant point maureen in fairness.
they are a dance troupe and they tick all the criteria needed to enter the show and thats it!
noone is at a disadvantage at all, lets remember its the public that choose the overall winner not the producers.
what i mean by ‘alrady known’ is in context to the producers of the show, and again they dont gain any advantage from this because its the public that make the final call.
and when you work for an agency, especially in dancers’ case, you dont have to be contracted, you can also be FREELANCE, meaning you do jobs for a multitude of different agencies. so again no rule breaking there.

Hello yummymummy,
If these dancers are in receipt of a regular professional income I would not let them do this show as it would be grossly unfair to other competitors. By professional income this means all income received either contractually or from freelancing with agencies who know they can get them regular work. Professional income in this avenue is any figure over 16k to approximately 25k per annum per individual.
The public do get there chance to vote but this is only after the judges decide who they are going to keep and in what show each competitor will perform in, prior to that the only public say comes from the live audience of relatives and friends of the competitors auditioning.
Having watched how professional dance troupes work out and prepare for shows, they are not strapped for cash, they do have the best of facilities and can afford to use them on a regular basis. They can also afford to hire a professional choreographer to work with them and will often hire a manager to take care of bookings etc. The very fact that they can do this and do not have to practice on the street or in a tennis court or ball park means that those groups out in the cold as we speak are disadvantaged.
There are a lot of people who audition for shows who feel that sometimes people who are ‘known’ are given special treatment, we have seen it in our threads when occassionally someone has remarked how they feel that some folk are singled out and that as such ‘jobs for the boys’ is not unknown.
