Britain’s Got Talent: Greg Pritchard The New Paul Potts?

One of the more memorable acts from tomorrow night’s Britain’s Got Talent is 24 year old hotel waiter Greg Pritchard from Usk. As Greg explains, “I’ve always sung in the car and my bedroom and my Mum is always shouting at me to turn the music down and stop singing” but he is hoping today that he can be the second Welsh singer to win Britain’s Got Talent and perform at the Royal Variety. And like series 1 winner Paul Potts, Greg today is also going to be singing Nessun Dorma. But unlike Paul Potts, the Judges reaction, especially Simon’s, to Greg’s singing is one of bewilderment as Greg sings in the highest, rather than the lowest ranges.
However he obviously has skill and despite the initial shock to his high pitched tones the audience are up on their feet and even Simon is smiling at the end, “that shouldn’t have happened should it! (referring to the crowds standing ovation). As Greg explains to Amanda “I am a male soprano” and Piers hits the nail on the head when he comments that “one of the most extraordinary things I have ever heard, of all the things I expected to come out of your mouth that was the last thing on my list, but I have to say you did it brilliantly it was a great act”. And Simon comments that “it was like a dog meowing, it just shouldn’t do that. But would I like a dog that meowed, yes I would, you puzzle me Greg”.
With even Simon stumped as to what to make of Greg’s vocals, which is probably a first ever for Simon, will Greg be the next Welshman singing Nessun Dorma to make it through to the live shows?
