Britain’s Got Talent: Spellbound want youngsters to enter gymnastics

Britain’s Got Talent hopefuls Spellbound are planning to perform a death defying routine on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent semi final and they have revealed that they hope their increased exposure through the show, will inspire younger children to get into gymnastics in their area.

Speaking to The Mirror, group leader Alex Uttley said:

“We want to inspire them. It would be amazing if we can encourage kids to get into gymnastics in the same way Diversity made street dancing popular.”

Alex also wants to have acrobatic gymnastics regonised as an Olympic sport, so that his team can enter the prestigious competition.

He said: “Hopefully, one day it will be.” The group’s route to the top has been far from easy. He explains: “There’s no funding for what we do. We’ve all had to scrimp and save to pay for training, costumes and travel.

“At one point I had a cleaning job before college. I would study for my A-levels in the day, train in the evening and then work in a nightclub at the weekends. You have to work hard.”
