Connie Talbot Heartbroken As Simon Cowell Pulls Out Of Record Deal
The six year old who captured the heart of millions during this years Britian’s Got Talent TV show, has been left heartbroken thanks to one Mr Simon Cowell.
Connie Talbot moved people to tears with her rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow (watch her performance at the end of this article) and had been promised a record deal by Cowell on air, however after recording just two songs for Sony BMG her parents have been told that she is too young for the label and they have put all future plans on hold.
“They said she was too young to be their sort of artist,” said Mrs Talbot. “We have been told to look for a company which looks after children.”
Simon Cowell was reported to have said:
“When the time is right I will be delighted to see if we can make it work.”

Oh dear, it is parents we have who are upset here. Parents who thought like many other pushy parents that there child is unique. No doubt she is to them a lovely adorable little angel. Children have bo concept of the value of money or what money really is about, it is adults who do. Connie will no doubt enjoy her childhood unsullied by the demands of music industry contracts to perform to its calling tune. I think this decision of Simons was the right one.
Who knows what can happen ten years or twenty years from now? Time will tell whether she turns into a gifted singer or not.

She has a great voice for a six year old, but we’ve only heard one song the entire time. No doubt she polished this one to perfections, but has not yet got the skill to sing at a level required for an entire album (note how the deal was stopped after the second song recorded).
Best thing for her – let her grow up normally and take some voice training as an additional activity. Let her participate in children’s choirs, get some music theory under her belt. Then, as a teenager, if she still has the voice and the interest, there is a lot of time for her to have a performance career.
But for the love of Pete, let her have as close to a normal childhood as possible.
The girl’s got talent, and in a few years she’s still got talent.
The most important thing is that she enjoys her childhood.
Yes the parents probably would like the money, but it’s her talent, not the parents’.
[...] Connie Talbot was first offered a record deal by Simon Cowell when the show finished. But the offer was retracted a few weeks later as the record company rightly decided that Connie was just too young. [...]
Connie may be too young but the whole world is waiting for a CD of hers right now. It would only be fair to Connie who’s dream it is to have her own CD released now and even more would it be VERY FAIR to the rest of the world that just cannot wait for a CD of this amazingly talented little girl.

Connie is only young and her parents should concentrate on her education until she’s about 16. Then she can approach music managers, producers etc and with a voice like an angel, watch out this will be the next Charlotte Church.
My daughter entered the second Britain’s Got Talent competition, she goes to performing arts school and we are still waiting to hear a written response from the judges. These tv talent contests are always really tough and you have to be better than the very best. Even if you are fantastically great, it doesn’t guarantee you will win or, even get to the finals. My daughter’s professional singing teacher who has passed grade 8 in vocal training, entered this competition the same time as my daughter and, still didn’t get through to the 2nd stage of the competition. This tells you how bloody tough these talent contests are. Connie Talbot is a very gifted and lucky young girl, with sure of a very bright future ahead of her.
did u guys no i auditioned 4 bgt?
OMG she is amazing she should have won
love u connie
for people who say she can only sing one song and thats all then type in connie talbot in youtube and you will find numerous songs sang by her and all exceptional. Stop putting her down.. Shes got talent!
I work at a record label and i just can’t belief that her parents really agree’d on this.
I think people don’t know what a 6 album contract really means.
It means that the label can force Connie to be signed as an artist until se get’s 14 (7 year agreement according to federal laws witch means that she won’t get a childhood at all).
Those are just another stupid parents trying to get money from they’re child’s work.
I personally could never have it on my conscience to destroy this sweet girl’s childhood for a stack of cash (witch she only get’s about 10% of when she eventually turns 18).
O.M.G she good at sining i’ll say really really good.
we’ll love you for this Connie Talbot xx
connie sings beautfully without doubt but the fact is she can always sing later on when she’s older and got herself a good education but she can never return to her childhood. She should sing for pleasure now, get voice training and as she’s already been recognised she should have no problems in the future.
Oh… this precious little girl has the voice of an angel at 6. I have listened to all of her recordings. Her voice has changed at 7, and will continue to change. I’m glad there are recordings at both ages. Her voice is like listening to an angel. I’m sorry her heart got broken by Sony…. I don’t know all of the details, but this girl LOVES to sing. It’s a gift. Too bad someone can’t put a deal together where she can do 1 album a year. This way she still gets to have her childhood…. and sing too. In the meantime, count me in on her fan list.
one question… if these little ones are too young for a record deal, then why the heck let them compete in the first place? that said, I’m glad we’ve gotten to hear her and that she has recorded that which she has. love her singing.
I think Connie is brilliant and hope this is not the last we ever see of her. Well done Connie
the child gives me goosebumps ,,, ok so she was 6 when she was on the show shes 7 now , and i am sure her parents will let her have a normal child hood and be wise with her money,,, NOT ALL PARENTS are into the money .. but anyway Sweet connie , please carry on and fulfil your dreams . cos only you will know what you want in life. my 5 yr old grandson is just amazed by her…
I love you Connie you are so wonderful
I think Simon did the right thing. I think that too much publicitly at a young age wont be helpful for her in the future of her career.
She’s got a lovely voice, a lovely smile and is so adorable. She will definantly make is big when she’s a little older.
Best wishes for you in the future Connie x
Dear little Connie,
I am sorry to hear that Simon pulled out of the record deal,
you must have been heartbroken. However, do not feel too bad
because your talent is incredible and I see as the future
Celine Dion. Continue to sing as you’re doing and do not
worry about the future, there is definetly a place for you
in the starlight. Since I heard of you, I have been promoting
you because I believe in you and know that you will get very
far. We in Canada love you and are pulling for you.XXX
I think many of the people here have it all wrong. It isn’t the parents pushing Connie. It’s Connie pushing the parents. If you have listened to her interviews, singing in front of people is what she loves to do. She loves to sing, period. She has even sang in her sleep a number of times, and singing on stage is like a dream that she “doesn’t want to end ” to use her words. Recording and singing is for her living her dream. So people, let’s leave her alone to live it.
Having read all the other comments, maybe Simon and his label
were right. A lot of people harp on about enjoying her
Childhood, thats fine, then in 10 15yrs time when she cant
raise enough for a deposit let alone make the repayments
on a mortgage. I say GO for it secure your future, who knows
whats around the corner.in the present financial climate
you have to take it when its offered.
Keep up the good work connie, I’m of to buy your latest album
& the new single that has taken America by storm.
eat your heart out Robbie Williams
anyone who says connie can only sing one song go to youtube and listen to her singing you raise me up
Maybe its not the implications of money that should be considered but the way a child is managed in the music industry..If the managers are knowledgeable and armed with implications surrounding managing a minor then it will not lead to exploitation and destruction of her child hood but to a cultural, educational and diverse journey thats not conventional but safe and grounded……Forarmed is forewarned……. children who are managed in theatre and entertainment seem to fair better in later life than those who have previously been managed in the music industry……..A good case for Research…

Just love you Connie…You are my favourite singer…You make my cry when i listen to you. Incredible. I know you have to enjoy your childhood, but I hope we get to see you at least once in a while…I saw you on the Oprah show..You were fantastic…Hoping to see you in the near future..
First off Simon works for Sony and it is a joint decision. Sony and Simon made the best decision for the child and the artist. Connie has a wonderful voice and will only get better with further development. In the meantime, she can have a healthy childhood, and be emotionally stable when she is ready to take the world stage, unlike so many of our current child music stars, whose lives have come undone. Good call on the part of Sony and Cowell, she will be an enduring mudsic talent , to promote in the future.
A lot of people are saying that Simon made the right decision and that Connie is too young to be recording an album. I’m not familiar with what the winner of BGT gets, but if it’s similar to American Idol the winner gets a recording contract. So if Connie had won in the finals would they not have to give her a recording contract? Like a previous poster said…if a contestant is too young to be signed to a recording contract then they shouldn’t let them compete in the contest. Regardless of the decision by Simon and/or Sony BMG I’m positive that Connie will be a huge success in the future. Her incredible voice and her love of singing will not go away, but Simon and Sony BMG can probably count themselves out of the running for any future deals with Connie.
Connie has a amazing voice…. never heard a child of her age sing the way she does…. i wish her all the best …. You are awesome Connie.
Why do people have to analize things so much…Why does it have to be anyones fault….Maybe this little lady is just the fantastic star that we all saw! Maybe she is a blessing sent by God to light up this dark world…And what a blessing, sent through a child no less! God bless Connie and her family…..just look into those beautiful, pure eyes and delight in that beautiful smile! “YOU GO GIRL!!!” I’ll bet your Grandma is smiling down on you!
