Hollie Steel Cries On Britains Got Talent

UPDATE: Can we please remind people that Hollie is a 10 year old girl. Whether or not you agree with Simon’s decision to let her sing again, remember that she is only a child and some of your vicious comments speak more about you than about her.
Only those with a heart of stone could have watched Hollie Steel break down on tonight’s Britain’s Got talent semi final and not almost join her in tears.
The little girl came onto the stage and began to sing Edelwiess from Sound Of Music. It was obvious from the start that she was nervous and her voice shook from the first note, I was so scared watching her progress.
By the middle of the song Hollie was wobbling and a few seconds later she broke down completely and the music had to be stopped. Hollie’s mum came up to the stage to comfort her and Hollie begged for a second chance. The producers, ever worried about their ad breaks and revenue figures, told Ant and Dec that she couldn’t perform for a second time. Hollie was almost in hysterics at the news, until, Simon Cowell swooped in and promised her that they would fit her in again at some point during the show.
Hollie reappeared later in the show and sang the song fully with no more tears. When the results were announced Hollie was placed up against Greg Pritchard for a place in tomorrow’s final.
By the end of the series the debate will be raging on whether or not children should be put under this sort of pressure and whether it is detrimental to their well-being to be judged in this way. I don’t think I would put my ten year old through the ordeal.

To those whom it applies, stop being so rude. Seriously. Come on, I mean, if I were a runner up on that show I would not be mad at Hollie, she has a dream and it means a lot to her. Just imagine how devastating it would be to know you could’ve nailed a song, and then you forget the lyrics, and you’re in a competition. Being on a show like that is a once in a lifetime chance, it’s stressful, and she’s only 10.
It’s easy to call her “spoiled” and “not brave” if you yourself don’t perform. Until one of you gets up there and auditions in front of millions, you have no right to say those things. Anyone calling her those names is way more “spoiled” than she will ever be.
Pheebs, yes it is quite obvious that you are not a mother. If the child wanted it so desperately, why would her mother withdraw her from the competition. She is not pushy mother, she is just encouraging her daughter to live her dream and not to give up at the first hurdle.
Hihihihi
I agree with you, they shouldn’t be saying the things they are saying. No-one knows how they would react if it was themselves or their child up on that stage, until they have been there themselves.
Destiny, encouraging her daughter to live her dream, or to live her own dream through her daugher?
Seeing the video again of that particular performance, after the girl broke down, her mother only comforted her with a hug, but she failed to ask the child if she is able to perform again at all. As a mother , she should have given her child the choice to either stop or continue. Yes you are right that it is a good thing to encourage a child to not give up, however, it is also a good thing to let a child know to have a choice and that it is okay to not force yourself.
Just a thing regarding the mother. Hollie had asked for a chance to try again, it wasn’t necessary for the mother to ask her if she felt up to it, because obviously she wanted to have another go.
Anyway, get it over it people, it happened. That’s it. Over and done with. Quit crying over spilled milk.
I wouldn’t say she’s spoiled. I just thought that her fake crying disgusted me. I can understand the mother’s part, but you can barely blame anyone for looking the mom as begging. Maybe she’s doing it for her kid’s dremas or maybe she’s doing it for her kid’s fame. We’ll never know so don’t be so sure and yell at someone else for what we’ll never know.
All of you who have said derogatory things about Hollie Steel should
be ashamed of yourselves! She’s a very pretty, talented little girl
with a truly beautiful voice for her age (she’s 11 now) and she certainly
should have been BGT 2009’s winner! I don’t think she’s a spoilt brat,
she just got an attack of nerves during her song in the semi-final,
which caused her to break down half-way through – wouldn’t most children
her age react the same way? I admire her for going back on stage and
singing Edelweiss again, that took real courage; no wonder Simon Cowell
told her she was the world’s bravest little girl. My heart went out to
Hollie when she cried – just wish I could have been there to give her
a comforting hug; she’s sooooo cute! And I think she’s going to have
a great career in singing when she’s grown up. Hollie – good luck, darling, well done – you were brilliant! XXX
