‘Insane’ David Walliams impresses Simon Cowell at Britain’s Got Talent 2012 Manchester auditions

David Walliams made his Britain’s Got Talent debut in Manchester this week and we think it’s fair to say that the Little Britain star was a big hit with both audience members and his fellow judges alike.

The witty star spent the day taking the mickey out of Simon Cowell, in a cutting yet hilarious way that Michael McIntyre never quite mastered.

In one funny moment, Cowell told a hopeful that he needed them to be a bit more “showbizzy”, to which David hit back:

“Yeah, why don’t you have a bit of work done, make friends with Louis Walsh, go on holiday with Sinitta, have your picture taken with your top off and some fruit in your mouth.”

Later, when Simon Cowell blasted a teenage boyband, Walliams defended them saying:

“I like that you’re five young guys and you’re not One Direction. Not everyone likes One Direction.”

Later that afternoon, Simon Cowell tweeted about his new friend and told his followers:

First day of auditions, think we found a star but won’t give it away. David Walliams is insane!

The X Factor boss also admitted that he was happy to be back in the UK and before visiting Manchester wrote:

Up to Manchester tomorrow. BGT auditions start -let the madness begin! I’m glad to be back. @GotTalent

Watch the judges arriving at the venue below and tell us, do you think the panel will be a good one this year?
