James Corden to star as Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts
James Corden has reportedly been cast as the leading character in a movie about Paul Potts’ life.
The Gavin and Stacey star will play the Britain’s Got Talent winner, who shot to fame when he won the first ever series of the ITV show back in 2007.
The film will follow Potts life story, looking at his early days in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, his experience at the hands of teenage bullies and his time in amateur operatic societies. Paul had several health close calls, after developing an adrenal tumour due to a burst appendix and Potts broke his collarbone and suffered whiplash in a bicycle accident in 2003. The mishap and financial difficulties that followed, led him to enter Britain’s Got Talent despite not having sung in years.
After James won the best actor Tony for the National Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway, film chief Harvey Weinstein called him up and asked him to star as Paul in his new movie, titled ‘One Chance.’
It is reported that the star will also have input into his script and is already working with director David Frankel on the screenplay.
Harvey told The Daily Mail:
‘James is a brilliant actor and a wonderful comedian and we’re excited to be working with him — and David — on this inspiring true story. Hot off James’s Tony win, we can’t wait to get started.’
Filming is expected to begin later this year.
