Mitch Winehouse asks ‘What’s the deal with Susan Boyle?’

susan-boyle-harpers-bazaar

Mitch Winehouse has been making his weekly observations about the celebrity world, on his online show ‘Mitch Winehouse’s Showbiz Rant.’

This week he turned his attention to Britain’s Got Talent runner up, Susan Boyle and her recent trip to New York. He said:

What’s the deal about SuBo? She’s got a big TV show in America, all these geriatrics it’s like Beatlemania out there. She’s got all these 75 year olds mobbing her wherever she goes, they’re OAPs on speed; this lot must be rent-a-crowd because there aren’t that many OAP’s in the whole of America! If she’s doing this chat show, have you ever heard Susan Boyle speak? They wouldn’t be able to understand her anyway she speaks a foreign language, she’s Scottish for God’s sake, they’d have to have translations up (breaks into a Scottish accent). “(To camera) I’m kidding Susan we love you, wanna do a duet?”

A man who speaks the truth!

  2. Retired In Kalifornia says:

A man who shamlessly capitalizes on the fame of others.

  3. Retired In Kalifornia says:

    Mis-spelling intentional…

  4. CanadianBill says:

Not ‘a man’ at all – and much more witless than witty.

Susan Boyle’s CD is selling to all ages – more to Baby Boomers perhaps who welcome her as a breathe of fresh air in a polluted world of botoxed, bleached, surgically enhanced talentless ’singers’.

This “man” is a very sad person with a sad life. Susan Boyle is a classy person and so are her fans. BTW, I am not 75, thank you. Susan is an awesome singer and wonderful person, which I’m sure is beyond your understanding. So who needs your opinion, not Susan and her fans. Call us what you want, but we are going to put Susan over the top in record sales. Even Alice likes Susan Boyle.

  7. Dede says:

Well with a name like Winehouse, it is understandable that he is a negative thinker!! and observer too…my guess, although I don’t know the man, is he is in the 45/55 age group and right now going through his ‘male change of life’ therefore his outlook is somewhat scatty…he obviously doesn’t know talent, even though his daughter, is it?, is a ’star’stop whining Winehouse and take note of a very talented woman that is Susan Boyle, she hasn’t needed anyone to further her career than her great voice and dynamic personality, not a daughter or any other ‘hanger on’ … by the way I am one of those OAP with nowt else to do but admire Susan Boyle’s success.

  8. Tania32 says:

Susan has fans of all ages (7 to 77 years) … It is a global star … Do you dislike !!

  9. janeway says:

Is this really wise to offend those couple of million Boyle fans all around the globe for a few seconds in the limelight? I am sorry to say that your name is already forgotten, but this classy lady continues to sell OTT. And, I am 36, thank you.

  10. Angel says:

LOL, I will not to see 75 for quite a few years. Susan has fans from all age groups, both men and women!Susan has an amazing talent and this guy’s assessment does not reflect that of many across the world. I find it laughable that a few people resent Susan’s HUGE success in such a short time and write this type of garbage.

Susan Boyle will sell over a million CD’s within the next week to ten days, Mr. Winehouse. And people of all ages, not just persons in their 50′ and 60’s, but youngsters too who wish to listen to, and be captivated by, real music with tone, melody and fine delivery, will be the purchasers. Time to wake up and to smell the coffee, Mitch!

Mr. Winehouse, your article is mean-spirited, in that you aim at just a segment of the whole of Susanfandom. If you had done your homework, you would have become aware of how many young fans were at the British Got Talent Tour performances around Europe. If you had done nothing else but watch the BGT Audition, the audience was mostly young people, who, at the end of her performance were deliriously standing and cheering for her. I am not an OAP, I am 66 and still working, but I feel ten years younger because of my love for Susan and her gift of song. My only drug is a natural one caused by the adrenalin rush from hearing Susan sing. As to not being able to understand Susan when she speaks, the words in her songs are as distinct and crystal clear and understandable as the finest English speaker. In her interviews, she is also very understandable. Her Scottish brogue is endearing and hearing Susan speak over these past seven months has trained our ears to understand even better. So, I don’t see Susan’s brogue as a hindrance or a barrier, but rather as as enrichment. So to answer your question: “What’s the deal with Susan Boyle”? Susan sings like no other in the field to date; she appeals to the young, old, and in between; she has connected with people around the world, even fans that do not have English as their first language, and finally, she sings like an angel.
    Next question?

  13. Jan-usa says:

Mr Winehouse – huge mistake, HUGE. There are millions more of us OAP’s in the world than you could possibly imagine and you have sir, managed (in less than 200 words) to p.o. each and every one of us.

  14. BarrD says:

Mr. Winehouse, you are certainly entitled to you opinion regarding Ms. Boyle’s music. Music preference is a highly personal thing. However, you seem not satisfied to state opinion but move on to senseless personal attacks not only of Ms. Boyle but also of her fan base. And your characterization of her fan base is factually lacking. I am neither 75, female, nor on pension. I would much prefer to listen to Ms. Boyle’s witty Scottish brogue than to wittless comments from someone who apparently has nothing to say.

  15. Kate says:

It is just so hard to understand why this kind of silly opinion is put out there. Perhaps just to get a rise out of someone or the news is slow (or trying to be different than the huge population that are buying Susan Boyle’s cd right now and wanting to see her appear anywhere.) Labeling her fans is more than ignorant, based on obviously no research whatsoever. As Susan’s cd will assure you … “You’ll See.”

  16. Truus Buist says:

    Mr. Winehouse,
You are entitled to your own opinion about the music of Susan Boyle, like it or not.
There is no need to offend all her fans, there are millions of them and they do love Susan Boyle as a person and as a singer.
Maybe you should think about the reasons why she is so loved…maybe you could learn from Susan Boyle that not trashing other people would make you a better person…maybe you would be loved then someday

  17. KathyM says:

Oh silly me. I bought Susan Boyle’s CD and absolutely love it. Love her voice.
Obviously there’s something very wrong with me since I’m many years away from 75!
My teenage daughter loves it too, so she must be even sicker than I am.
    Help!

  18. katladyd says:

Susan is head and shoulder above many, many, female singers out there. You may not share this opinion with me. Thats okay, you don’t have to. I’m a long way from retired, still sexy, still lovin’ life, and lovin’ Susan Boyle. At least Susan doesn’t have to rely on negative headlinges, oh about drugs and abusive husbands for instance, to sell records. She sells records because 1. She can sing. 2. She is a nice person who is lovable. 3. She is good role model for everyone. And finally, 4. SHE HAS CLASS!!! Any questions?

  19. Southernlady says:

Geez, How many more are going to try to grab their 10 seconds of fame by voicing their opinions (and obviously envious) of Susan. Got some news for you dude, Susan’s star is rising faster than a speeding bullet & mean spirited verbal abuse about her does nothing to stop her enormous popularity or her phenomenal album sales. Only 75 year olds? Man, come out of the cave! She’s got fans of all ages worldwide. Do you??

  20. Gingercat says:

Since negative and nasty comments about Susan Boyle have not been able to stop her from singing to the world, you have now decided to belittle her fans? What’s the deal here? Have you not noticed that she ignores personal attacks? Don’t you think her fans will also ignore personal and erroneous attacks? They are both both not worthy of note. I suggest you listen to her cd and see if your heart beats a little faster and feelings of goodwill overtake you. She would welcome you as an appreciative and supportive fan, and so would we!

  21. Patricia says:

Your opinion is just plain dumb!
    Case closed! Susan Rules!
    You droole.

  22. USA GAL says:

SUSAN BOYLE…is FANTASTIC…I take it as a direct insult your statement referring to the ages of Susan Boyle fans: they come in all sizes and ages…Susan Boyle instilled the ability of ALL ages to dream their dreams…For all things are possible if you use your heart, mind, determination and pursue a goal…Having the #1 best selling Cd shows us that….Beauty isn’t skin deep: It’s in the eyes of the beholders…Her wonderful FANS throughtout the world….SHAME ON YOU!!! “(to camera you think this guy has parents or was he raised by wolves ?)”

  23. gottagettagus says:

Oh, dear. You have foolishly and unwittingly attracted the attention and raised the ire of one of the most passionate ‘lobby’ groups on the Net today. We are of all ages, nations and beliefs, yet that one wee, humble, talented Scot holds us together. And we are as protective of Ms.Susan Boyle as a mamma bear is of her cub. I have to wonder if you have anyone who feels that way about you….
